E-mu use to have a list of E-III compatible devices and most, not all, of
them worked with the Emax II. I'm not sure if it's still on there website.
The Emax II has a 540 Mb partition limit, if you by a drive any bigger
the extra space will go unused, also the Emax II is not combatible with
drives that "spin down". The biggest drive I have heard that has worked
is a Quantum Lightening 730. I bought a Quantum Fireball 500 and it
did not work. My suggestion is to find an older Conner drive no bigger
than 540, that gives you the best chance at success.
My recomendation is to get a Syquest removable drive like the 44, 88,
200 or EZ-135 and EZ-Flyer 230. I use the 135 and 230 and they work
flawlessly and with only a 13ms access time they are as fast as a real
HD so you can boot from them too.
