Emax II service manual

Emax II service manual

Does anyone have an Emax II service manual with the schematic on it? I can't find one on the web to download.

Tom-

That's because it's still copyrighted.
That's why it's not in the files section.
I believe you can purchase it at musicparts.com

Please note that the schematics does not include the power supply as it was provided to Emu through 3rd party.

I also noticed you talking about CPU with a black cover, but I have never seen any board with a cover over the CPU.

So I am wondering if you are looking at the right item?

The CPU is in the lower left corner of the board (when the unit is facing you).

So I can pay music parts for a downloadable manual and he'll make sure to get the money to creative?

It's the little black box next to the processor that I'm getting the buzzing from. Seems to be a transformer. I just want this board working and there are not that many parts to break. I did find the metal piece of the floppy stuck in the floppy drive. I don't know if that would have shorted something out. The keyboard is one of the cleanest I've seen inside. I just have nothing on the screen. The backlight works.

Thats the back light inverter

It means the back light is dead

I wrote to Creative regarding this, once I bought a casio RZ1 service manual from such reseller, and the legit thing was totally nonsense of course, since that i’m questioning the legit status of the musicparts/emax

EVERYONE-

One may question all they wish in regards that copyright "makes sense" or not.
I agree it would be fine in my opinion for it to be freely available.
Copyright law doesn't make sense in all points to me.

However, it doesnt change the fact that per the LAW here in the US where the company resides and Yahoo is hosted, and the Yahoo Terms Of Service this would be in violation.
Musicparts had to have signed a contract for "right to copy" from E-mu to be able to resell the item.

Someone show me a document which clearly indicates the rights aren't owned or are released by E-mu Systems and we can have the files posted.

If no person has such document, then I would ask EVERYONE just be helpful to others as possible within the Terms of Service.

If someone disagrees with the Yahoo! Terms of Service perhaps those person(s) should move to a forum where these restrictions aren't in effect.

Like they say "if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all."

Schematics for the various power supplies are not in the Emax 1 or Emax 2 service manuals.

The power supplies were supplied to Emu by a couple of different vendors.

This is possibly why they weren't included in the manual.

Re: [emax] Emax II service manual

2014-12-21 by emma

The psu are made by a tiawan company call skynet

There are several version revisions

The first were linear types with a switching circuit that if the switch on the back was set to 220-240 would make the dual 110 inputs to the transformer switch to series

The secondary voltages were still the same and the rectifiers and bridge rectifiers and power regulators would produce the require voltages and the smoothing caps would remove ripple from the dc lines

You have to be careful on the -12 regulator as its connected to a heat sync and its not connected to ground so the whole heat sync is live when switched on

The 5 v has a variable adjustment from the power regulator to get exactly 5 volts

The emax 2 psu is a active sensing switchmode type

It switches internally to any voltage from 100-250

Skynet made most of emu psu

But you would not find many psu designs in schematics

As they were usually sub contracted out

Scott-

I specifically mentioned we can't post the files for the schematics here.
Then you send a mail to the group with a link to the file, basically circumventing what I just posted.

Apparently you weren't listening...

I have had to go in and remove the conversation entries and have now permanently removed you from the group as you aren't abiding by the Terms of Service.

I really want to apologize for any unrest in the group I might have caused. I really appreciate everyone's replies. I just want to get this Emax II up and running. Its a keyboard that has been on my bucket list. So could the power supply be giving the correct voltages but still have a problem with it?

I have the main board out and I don't see any caps by the processor. The only caps I see on the board are the x2 25v 10uf and the one 16v 47uf.

The CPU is in IC90 I have figured. I don' have a chip in IC4 or IC64-99 or RN6.

On the expandable memory board PC357 I have only chips in sockets IC54-57.

This is a model 2212. It really does not show any signs of someone messing around inside of it.

I just have that blank screen. I do see the blue backlight in it.

I did find the piece of the metal floppy cover in the floppy drive flopping around. I got that out. I'll check on seeing what happens when I unplug the floppy and power it up.

thanks,
Tom

Re: [emax] Emax II service manual

The missing sockets are for diagnostic chips

The reason no blue back light and the wine os the backlight has failed and now there is very low resistance and the transformer is taking the load and is sqealing as ots trying to drive the backlight

The noise you spoke of is the small black box

Wjen you mentioned about the cpu making a noise a capacitor can make those wineing noise to and why I said check the bypass caps

But you explained the backlight inverter as the cpu

Yes you can get correct voltages but you need a scope to check the ripple for this you need to measure the dc lones as a ac signal and you can measure the ripple the smoothing caps after the rectifiers are the best place to check as you can use a dual trace for the ripple before the caps and test the ripple on the emax psu connectors

On the psu it gives you the voltages for the pins on the connectors

Check for 5v on the cpu

And see if youre getting the voltage on the screen and on pin 3 which should be .6 lower than the 5v max and it can have a range of 0-4.2-4.4 for the angle

If there is no voltage there you wont get any thing on the screen

I would bell out the connections to the screen as inthe past I have had broken leavers in the grip connector on keyboards

Racks dont suffer from this as they are hard soldered

I ended up ordering a nos power supply from bigbeatmarket on eBay. I messaged him and he has a few more if anyone is interested. I figured the cost of the new power supply is the same as the bench charge from a technician. I'll post if that fixed things.
