I have bought a USB to RS422 adapter but don't found a DB9 RS422 Female cable, exist only a DB9 RS232 female Cable and I'm not sure if this work

The Emax requires a specific pin assignment, so a custom cable should be made. Common retail RS232/RS422 cables won't work with the Emax.

Note that normal commercial USB/RS422 adapters won't work neither. The USB to RS422 adapter should be a custom-built one, as explained in the EmuSer DIY project. Did you buy an EmuSer or a standard retail USB/RS422 adapter ?

See the EmuSer documents for both the cable and the adapter specifications on http://www.emxp.net

Emax uses a special clock rate and you cannot use "off the shelf" DB9 RS422 to USB adapters.

You have to build "Emuser" interface.

Hello, really thx for the replies
No, I don't have bought any adapter yet, because I wanted to know if these adapters worked.
But now I understand that I have to build :)
Is there anyone who sells these cables and adapters already assembled and ready to use for the Emax ?

Freddy, a German member of http://www.eiiiforum.com, is building EmuSers and the required cables.
Since his e-mail address is currently not public, you may have to become eiiiforum member to contact him on that forum.

Hi all,

I am after one of these Emusers for Emax as well. I used EMX and EMXP with floppies before this is just so much better!

I don't have time to try and build, so I want to get in touch with this famous Freddy.

I signed up for the EIII forum but still have no email with 2 email addresses attempted.

Esynthesist, can you sort me out?

Thanks,

Ed

Just updated my Emax rack's Plus OS to the 1989 latest one in the files section with EMXP.

Coolest part was I used an emax formatted Compact Flash card in my MPC 1000 with JJ 2XL OS to transfer the file from the computer to the CF card. feels so good to use the sampler to transfer samples.

Seeing as this works, what benefits do users see in the EMUSER versus just transferring by cf card?

Thanks Esynthesist, this is so fun!

E

No idea what's going wrong with the membership approval process on eiiiforum...
I contacted the moderator about this today, I'm expecting a response from him soon.

I have sent a message to Freddy as well, asking him if there's another way to get in touch with him besides using personal messages on eiiiforum. If he provides me an alternative (e-mail address I suppose) I will post it here.

I have 2 RS-422 cables for my emax. One is for old macs and ends in a square connector divided into lots of smaller square holes.

The other cable ends in an old serial keyboard or mouse connector. circular, like 9 pins. I have a converter for this connector to usb.

Is any of this of any use? or is the emuser necessary between any modern computer and rs422 emax?

Any word on getting in touch with freddie? kinda jonesin.

You can't "convert" the Mini-DIN (round) connector with a PS/2 to USB converter (which is what you have- it is not an Mac ADB (Apple Desktop Bus keyboard / mouse connector it is a PS/2). In addition, the USB bus is 12Mbps (USB 1.0 standard) speed. Emax is max 115k speed and isn't compatible even with most PC based RS-422 boards.
