RE: Re: [emax] troubleshooting EMXP

You might have a very good point there as both of the drives I purchased Used a Weird Stuff in Sunnyval and have no idea their history or use.

I am going to try and get another old one from work today and keep swapping til I find one that works. This shouldn't be this hard to do...

Well, I would do that, but this is a big EGO thing with me in that I don't wan to let something so simple 'beat me'.
with EMXP's claims, it also it seems that this should NOT be an issue
being that EMXP is supposed to do this without incident, and it DOES
Not format to floppies the way it should(at least on my machine it won't)
Yes, perhaps This very well could be a user
be user headspace and timing issue, but I doubt it.
I build PC's for fun and know
my way around them pretty well and certainly have had no issues installing
the Omniflop drivers, getting it to see my floppy disk drive and actually formatting to EMU OS using Omniflop wizard itself (at least it says it does..once its placed into the Emax the Emax says floppy isn't formatted!)
So, perhaps its NOT working..
The problems arise when trying to burn a copy of an OS disk using wither Omniflop or EMXP:
It just isn't working.
Yeah, I could just buy a disk BUT why pay for a disk when I am going to need to make more copies to help people out in our user group who also need the plus OS disks also? Are we ALL to pay Route 66 10.00 for a single Plus OS floppy disk? I think if we have to bone this deep into these machines this copying an OS disk shouldn't be all that difficult-as a matter of fact, it should be something rather simple for most of us and I am certainly
not one to shun getting my hands dirty just a little to make it happen.
Still, this is ridiculously time consuming for such a simple task.
as EMXP is not doing what is should and being that it is indeed a 'freeware program' I cannot complain BUT, it is what it is, you got no other choices.

I am starting to think that running off the SCSI connector that i installed on this is a rather pointless issue as eventually, the SCSI zip disks will wear out and die as will the ZIP drives. This was just a quick fix to get the Plus OS installed so I could actually load in sounds off the SCSI Zip drive but I am really just fed up with the whole EMU SCSI Bullshit routine and am just gonna order the HxC floppy emulator and be done with it all.

thanks for the advice.

Seeing all of these listserve posts on this floppy disk OS issue: Windrum, have you considered paying the $5.95 plus $3.00 domestic shipping to just order an Emax Plus 1.0 operating disc from Route 66? It seems that that would be simpler, less time consuming and certainly less frustrating.
No I have no connection to the above vendor whatsoever.
Please don't take this as any criticism of trying to go the PC route on this. Just trying to think of another option to solve the problem. Ted as usual is so gracious in sharing his knowledge, and patient in assisting you and the listserve with the problem.
Best wishes,
Mike

1) You cannot use any IDE interface drives directly with Emax.
2) I downloaded and double click the dos exe and it said "please insert floppy" here at work. You are making this step / item too difficult by "over-analyzing" the process.

Not quite sure how I'd execute
That Dos622.exe from within windows
So that I can then use EMXutil
Gonna experiment
If worse comes to worse there's
HxC floppy emulator
Or internal IDE Zip in the Emax

You can't attach a pic to a mail to the group.

You would have to put it in the group files, or in your mail provide a link to the picture.

esynthesist is a member on the group and is the developer of EMXP and you can contact him directly through his website also…

With that said- I have never tried formatting a floppy with EMXP.
Usually I format a floppy on the EMAX, then use EMXUTIL or EMX (or EMXP) to write the OS file to the already formatted disk.

Have you tried that?

I'd love to help the users out in the group but
if I don't get EMXP cutting FDD's soon
i am gonna be
