Well the rack version would not have a KPC control, (keyboard pressure controller) nor would it have the mod wheel controllers.

    Richard,

Thanks for your answer :-). I found the diagnostics doc at the emulator archive. After some more testing, i managed to make the Emax II keyboard boot normally but it hangs after 4 or 5 seconds. Sometimes it shows garbarge at the LCD, some others it just stop respondig or all lights turn on. Since both mainboards work ok when not swapped i suppose i'm out of luck and somehow the MB of my KB and the MB of my Rack are incompatible. :-(

I believe if you pull a cable or disconnect the display or floppy drive on a normally working unit...at boot you will see certain button lights lit that corresponds to the issue.

The upper line of the display shows black squares and all the buttons lights turn on. If i swap them again both Emaxes keep working. I noticed that the keyboard MB has an RN6 chip that the rack one doesn't have (the socket is empty on the rack MB). Any ideas of what that chip does ? Anyone knows which is the chip that store the sound memory size ?
