When I developped the Emax-II part of EMXP, I did quite a lot of experiments to format ZIP disks on a PC for the Emax-II. The physical disk parameters of an Emax-II formatted ZIP disk are well known - that's not the issue - but when I tried to use these parameters in my formatting program, the format process always failed when it tried to format the very last tracks (the ones which are not used by Windows/DOS on ZIP disks). That's why EMXP does not include the physical format option. So far I only managed to use ZIP disks on my Emax-II which had been formatted by the Emax-II first, or by a Mac (system 7 or lower). But not all disks formatted by the Mac could be used, only some of them... strange. Once you have formatted the ZIP disk on the Emax-II, EMXP can write complete disk images to that disk for use on the Emax-II. But that won't help you of course :-) You may try to write such an image to a "random" Dos/Mac formatted ZIP disk you have somewhere, but the chance is small that the Emax-II will recognize the disk. EMXP has a menu option to generate such an empty Emax-II ZIP disk image, which contains all indexes and other things which are also generated by the Emax-II format process. But as mentioned before, this "logical formatted disk" is only usable if you also have a "physical formatted disk". ///E-Synthesist --- In emax@yahoogroups.com, "Phreak boy" <gertie01@...> wrote: > > Hi there > thank you for your help > the zip drive is fine, i can load samples into another sampler using it. I can format zips with it using the other sampler. Its one of those iomega 100 blue ones which reads 100mb zip files....I have been using new zip disks. i guess if it works on one sampler, it should work on another...no other scsi devicdes are being used > does anyone know a way of formatting an emax II zip on a pc? > > --- In emax@yahoogroups.com, "s*" <scartattack@> wrote: > > > > What model of Zip drive is it?
