E-synthesist, i changed the display settings on the recalibrate function, saved the settings then switched the unit off, waited for a bit , switched it back on and the display was as it was before id changed it (ie readable as id changed the contrast so high you couldnt see the letter as a test) so i guess you must be right in that department. Im pretty sure in the dim and distant past that ive had to recalibrate it before, although it might have been my old d50, cant remember, anyway now the display reads E-Mu Sytems Inc on the top line (this doesnt change) and various randomness on the bottom line (the best one is ////wait`a`moment/nnnn) i can make out what modules and sub modules im looking at but as for values, they seem to look like this [ppN]///////``. Im going to check this later but the MIDI ports are directly behind the display, maybes something has jolted or knocked the display unit as ive been plugging in and taking out MIDI cables? who knows, ill have a look tho!
