Thanks for helping. I did some tests myself on an EMAX-SE, see 
message 2982.
I managed to boot it from an EMXP formatted disk a few times, but 
most of the time it failed, exactly the same way as you described (3 
clicks and then finished). I restarted the EMAX-SE about ten times 
(power off/power on). The boot was successful 4 times, it failed the 
other 6 times.

I did some other research since then, and my conclusion is that I 
can't change the software. So I gave up... :-).
