Re: [emax] Re: Chinese floppy emulator

2014-09-07 by JAMIE logan

im away at the moment for all of september meeting with manufacturers

i have 3 prototypes which were bare metal cases 2 normal size 3.5" drives

and 1 emax larger type drive which will fit also the eps16+ eps classic epsm and the EIII and Emax1/2 this is the shugart 3.5" type

i have now spray painted these in black these are for beta testers ted is receiving the emax type prototype

and the others are being fitted into asr10 racks

i have to do product control and making sure the finished bracket is to spec

i then have to purchase more pcbs and have the components reflowed in a pick and place conveyer oven

i have a cash of nos slim floppy drives and i remade the slim floppy adapter so that normal mfc flat cable can be used as at the moment they use a special one where pin one is pin one to match the slim floppy drive connection as if you use a normal mfc cable which has connection on the same side when you flip it to fit the slim floppy they are reversed

no doubt as soon as these are released there will be knock off Chinese versions in no time so i will be only doing as limited run so that i know that i wont be left with lots of spare drives ads its all set up and tooling has already been payed for its easier just to order batches

this is what the aztec monster guy does

No- Jammie is waiting to get metalwork from manufacturing and powdercoated.

At least that is my understanding. Last also Jammie commented I think it is 1 to 2 months out before they may be available.
(not speaking for him, this is just my understanding from what he has posted).

Aha ok, sounds very interesting.
I managed to install the slim floppy, with the modded adapter, and the machine seems to be working just fine! Thanks for all your help and wisdom Ted :)
So as Im still concidering different options to make use of the SCSI in my machine, this thing Jamie is working on could perhaps be a solution.
Have anyone heard of any preorders to be sent or something?
Niklas

It's a project he is working on. It is not complete yet. Slim floppy and media drive in 1 to just put in Emax directly, no adapters, etc.

Please follow the posts for any announcement when it is available.

Ted

Hi

I think I've missed this thing. What is this dual combo-drive, Jamie?
