MD Contest changes

Nice to see people reacting. Here are some changes:

We need more time, this is agreed! Lets try to make it a new
challenge on every month (contest ideas are welcome from everyone).
This contest has allready started (from now on they start at the
first of the month). This contest ends 24.9.2004.

I'll try to gather all mp3-links for the voting. So I'm not gathering
the mp3's itself just a links (it's your job to put them on the web).
Make sure you don't delete them before contst ends; I'll put the
links once again, when we are voting.

You can of course use the individual outs. Just sum the channels to
stereo file in Cubase or what ever you are using. This is of course a
MD only contest, so no multibands/limiters or anything else to
sweeten the loop.

I thought this too yesterday, when I made the last post. This is now
changed: You can use the song mode, mutes, offsets repeats and
everything, just make sure it's done with only one pattern.

This changes things a little, since someone can do a one pattern (1
sec) and someone will do a whole song (3 min). They are not very
compearable, so please everyone lets try to make these loops (or
whatever) max around 30 sec, Ok? Is this wide enough restriction (I
don't mid if it's 40 sec loop, just that they aren't many minutes).

So I guess these are the MD Contest changes. Lets repeat them once
again, for persons who didn't read the above accurate enough:

1. Contest ends 24.9.2004 (don't get lazy, start one today).
2. Post links to your loops, I'll gather the links (not Mp3s).
3. You can use song-mode also, just try to stay max 30 sec.
4. Individual outputs are ok.
5. We can try to make these contests a monthly thing. Everyone can
suggest ideas (try to keep them general, so they don't favor house-
boys or DnB-junkies. So that everyone can do something).

Thats it, now go do your MD tweaks!
Toni.

ps. Thanks for the loop Flo, I've noted the link.

pps. If we get a lot of responses, maybe we could delight Elektron
people at Sweden and send them there ("Let's us whow what Elektron MD
is cabaple of!").

These rules sound great to me. The only additional thoughts I have are
that in the future, we might want to make the time 30 seconds minimum
and 1 minute maximum. But we should see how everyone does the
first time around before changing it. Also, if we're going to do this
every
month then perhaps we should designate a specific machine every month
rather than always letting people choose what they want. Again, we can
do
the above this month and then maybe designate a machine next month if
that's what everyone wants.

Regarding posting songs: I can remove the audio files in the the group's
website and create a special place there for this contest. Then I'll
remove
them (and create an archive, including contest results) the week before
the
next month's submissions are due. It will probably be easier than
keeping
a list of links and such; everyone can just post their audio/sysex
files in one
directory so we don't have to surf all over to find them. And if
they're only
30+ seconds, there *should* be enough room for them there.

And I hope nobody minds me removing the audio in there; I'm sure that
all
threads regarding any audio have run their course (the newest file is
six
months old), so it should be ok with everyone, I'd imagine. If not,
let me know.

Hi!

Great idea! I think this is a good way for everyone to learn new
tricks on their MD.

I'm in!

Re: [elektron] MD Contest changes Uploading?

2004-08-30 by endlessnessisticman

I'd like to know a good way of uploading what I got. It was faster
than I thought. I have an MP3, a .mid sysex file, and a text file I'd
like to upload somewhere. Shouldn't we create a file in the Files to
hold all the sysex/mid files for the contest? I don't think there is
room for the audio there. I think we should have a standard upload
thing going on.

Also, is it OK to save kit+pattern in the MD? A13-A13 should save
pattern and kit on A13 right? I think this is how we're supposed to
do it. Then people can upload that Kit+pattern anywhere on their MD
to check it out.

This is the way I see it:

We should have a files section in the Files here at the group for
Contest Kits+Patterns. Then we should have a soundclick "band" to
upload mp3s. You don't have to wait for the soundclick to authorize
or anything, it's quick and easy. Save your mp3s with the same title
as your kits+patterns. Share the soundclick id and password. Nobody
please change the password. Once the contest finishes the admin here
can change the password so nobody should upload mp3s or whatever.

About monthly contest:

Maybe monthly but if you want votes, uploads, vacations.... It should
be bi-monthly. A month to put it together, a month to vote and discuss.

there's a new files section in the groups website. you can
upload everything there. there's a simple README on what
to do; hopefully everyone will read it before they post :-)

we've got about 20MB of space left. if files are around 30
seconds each than we theoretically have room for about
40 entries a month. judging from the response so far,
that should be enough for now. if things change than we'll
cross that bridge when we come to it.

that should work just fine.

hmmm.... it would be better if we could just leave the Soundclick thing
for archiving each months entries, but keep the group's website for
the current entries (so that they're easy to find/get to). but again, I
don't know if there will be space. I don't imagine that Soundclick
would
give us more than a couple month's worth of MD space (i.e. 40MB+).
