It's MD contest time!!

It's MD contest time!!

2004-08-27 by tahvenaine2002

Hello dear Elektron Users,

I wrote earlier that maybe we should do some contests or something to
get our creative MD juices flowing (is this english?). Here is what I
suggest:

MD Contest rules:

1. You only do one pattern. Only one, only MD.
2. You can use only one machine and you can choose this machine
yourself. It can be loaded to every pad if you wish, but it can only
be one; for example TRX-BD on all 16 pads. You can of course tweak it
like hell on every pad and use parameter locks and new CTR-machines
are also ok.
3. Record your pattern as Mp3 and put it online (this is up to you to
handle, sorry). You may loop it few times, so it gets easier to
listen to.
4. Please do put the kit as sysex file also. When everyone shares,
everyone also gets some. Please use OS 1.19 or state it if you are
using some other OS.
5. Then we vote for the winner. Winner gets nothing but respect for
being the ultimate Md tweaker :)
6. The contest ends 2.8.2004 (I hope usa-friends also understands
this also as they write their dates other side around).

What we all get is a good creative trip off the beaten path and see
if we find something new approaches with these limits. I'm going to
give it a try and I'll hope there is other people too (Nils is too
good and is not alloed to join). Anyone up to contest?

Toni.

ps. Just kidding about Nils. Show us what you can cook with one
machine only.

yes it is :-)

hmm.... well that would be 8.2.2004, which was about 25 days ago.... or
am I
missing something?

either way, it's a great idea. Nils will certainly win, but it will be
fun to try anyway.
but here's a couple thoughts/questions:
1) how will we choose the winner? the one who took the machine the
furthest?
or the one that wrote the coolest/best sounding pattern?
2) how will we choose the machine? personally I don't think it matters
much, so
TRX-BD would be fine.
3) are we permitted to use song mode to sequence our one pattern in an
interesting way?

no rearranging will change the fact that august 02, 2004 is lost to history, and we
can't have it back. =)

Shit, I meant 8.9.2004 (let's not speak of understanding of dates :)

We generate a poll from patterns and let the people vote. Personally
I think it's great to kick out violin or Saxophone out off Md but
cool patterns make more.

> 2) how will we choose the machine?

Everyone can choose their own. I can choose EFM-CC and you can choose
something else. It's also a strategic decision ;)

No song-mode. it's easier to put them to same line when everything is
in pattern mode (in song mode you could do a song out of one pattern).

Toni.

You not just rearranging enough!

Ok, I ment 2.9. Rearrange that.

Toni.

that's cool. but you might want to set a date once we've got enough
interested parties.

so then we choose based on the best pattern recorded. Ok.

hmmm.... not sure I like this restriction. it's more interesting to do
quick changes
in song mode. at least for the recording, it would be nice to utilize.

I think you should set the date back more. Please type out the month.
I don't like to rush things. Give us at least a month. That will
give a more relaxed time. This is supposed to be fun right?

I don't care about song mode. I wouldn't use it anyway. I wouldn't
reject others using it. It's one pattern right?

I think you should not be so strict on the date. Give us some time.
Have a due date. Wait another month for late comers, then set up a
poll of all the songs. Just let us vote for the music.

Please don't be strict on the date. Plus we have to record the mp3
and upload the kit. We need time.

allo-

new listee here. anyways, this idea sounds great.. but i agree that
a little more time would be nice just so more people could get in on
it. also: can we use the individual outs for mixdown or can we only
pull from the stereo outs?

Zombie,
Nice job! But it would be great to see the Sysex file if you get a
chance to figure it out :-)

I definitely intend to play.

That said- more time would be nice. why don't we make
this a monthly deal? Say, a new challenge on the first
of every month with submissions due by the 3rd Friday,
then voting during the last week with the tallied
winner announced on the first of the next month when
we do the next challenge.

This is a great idea. But I think we have to give
everyone time who might want to play. We're not all
Robacid ;-)

I never managed to get anything from my MD to the computer,
because I don\ufffdt understand this midiOX software.

Anyway, just wanted to upload something quickly,
because I am not a fan of too many rules.
Also, if you cannot meet the deadline, well who cares,
enter the next competition or start a new one yourself.

I mean there i no use in having to read several pages of instructions.
Just go, hit your machine, have fun, record, upload.
Who cares about winning.

Ciao
Flo
