Breaks

2006-02-08 by rryman23

Greetings,

I own an MD and wanted to inquire within the group as to how one creates breaks with the
sequencer. Currently, I am able to program drum tracks and alter the sound with my
onboard effects. I have also experiemented with using Ableton Live to sample and process
sounds that the MD produced and overlay them onto the beat sequence. What I am
wondering is how I can make Venetian Snares-esque beats with my MD. Does anyone
have a technique that I could possibly use to do this?

Also, I was thinking about investing in a Delay/Pitch Shifter pedal in order to adapt rhythm
sequences into noise scapes. Is there a way to apply a different effects setting to each and
every step in a pattern?

he's used trackers quite a bit for pitching, retriggering, etc ...
after sampling some drums, try

renoise
<http://renoise.com/>

modplug
<http://sourceforge.net/projects/modplug>

these guys aren't intuative if you're used to piano rolls and x0x
sequencers, but after you get the hang of them there is no faster,
easier way to compose!

also on the MD, you can do re-trigger effects on the sample-drums ...
combine that with automating pitches, filters, etc
