Online Videos (ATT: C.D. Tobie)

Online Videos (ATT: C.D. Tobie)

2008-12-07 by Rebel PPC

I would love to be able to watch, at my leisure, the online video tutors for
my new Spyder3 Elite. However, for my sins of having the audacity to live
in Rural America, I do not have cable or DSL access but have been sentenced
to the world of dialup.

After getting my Spyder3 Elite I noticed that the Datacolor website offered
7 videos covering the Spyder3 Elite:
1. Catherine Hall's Spyder3 Demo
2. Intro Tour
3. Features (actions)
4. Features (Tools)
5. Features (Tools Part 2)
6. Custom Targets
7. Studio Match

I went into town where I can wifi onto a local broadband wireless with my
laptop to download (right click and save to HD) the videos and take them
home to watch at my leisure. To my horror, I see that Datacolor does not
let you do that but opts to make you watch then online via their own website
embedded player.

So the question is, how do people that do not have broadband available in
their homes get their hands on these videos to support the product they just
purchased?

Thanks in Advance

Sorry if the following message shows up twice but I emailed it via my
email client and it never showed up on the list so I am sending it
again directly from the groups Yahoo site and see if I can get it to
post.

You can save the videos using Firefox and an extension called "DownLoadHelper".

http://www.downloadhelper.net/

Start the movie and go to Firefox's top menu --> Tools --> DownLoadHelper. At the bottom
of the pulldown menu will be the name of the video in the .flv format. Use VLC to view the .flv
format.

Horror might be a bit over the top, but I will speak to the web-team, and see if the flash videos can be set up so that they are downloadable, as well as watchable. My personal peeve is that, being in Flash format, I can't run them on my iPhone...

Well, it was a bit since I had packed up and dragged the laptop into town in a blizzard at the time. But it was my fault for not paying attention to the website where the videos are in the first place or I would have noticed that they were not downloadable.

Thank you very much, I appreciate that. I have watched parts of them while in town (where the broadband is) but I really want to sit down at my own leisure, in my own home, and really digest the contents. There is still a lot I don't understand about the use of my new Spyder3 Elite and from what bits I have seen, I think these videos will set me straight.

I would assume that if you can get your hands on the original videos, then you can use just about any video format conversion utility offered on the web to convert them to an iPhone compatible format.
Thanks again for checking if they can be made available for download. I eagerly await your findings.

The answer is that the only thing we could do on our end is to convert them to typical Windows and Mac video formats, which would take up a lot more bandwidth for us when people download them. So I'm going to have to suggest you look into the idea that you download them with FireFox and DownLoadHelper, then view them with VLC. Sorry I can't offer anything else...

Support is done via the website support system, so you'll need to create a ticket there, and describe your problem. You don't note what product you are using, but if its Spyder3Pro, then the way to get a white luminance adjustment is to FIRST be sure your display is defined as having a backlight control, (use the Edit Display Definition function in the application's menu to change this if you got it wrong initially) THEN use the ambient light option, being sure your room light is low, so that it will define a matching low display luminance. THEN during calibration it will give you a target, and ask you to adjust your backlight to meet the desired value.

Sorry for the confusion. Let me clarify. I have windows xp pro and updated to spyder elite 3 ver 3.06. I tried to launch photoshop cs4 and I received a message stating that the profile created was invalid and can't be recognized by cs4. I want to recalibrate and I can't seem to get to a screen which will enable me to change the brightness or contrast as I did at the begining. Short of reinstalling the software, can you help.
Thanks much

3.0.6 is fresh out, so its possible the problem is with that. But first, go through the process of redefining your display characteristics, as I described previously, to include the backlight option being checked, then make sure you have Measured mode selected in the advanced targetting options. This should offer you a place to enter B&W luminance values in the target, and then offer you a chance to set your white luminance using the backlight control. You won't get a chance to adjust black luminance unless your display has a non-backlight controls as well, which is not too common these days...

Perhaps the opposite; LCDs are capable of a wide range of luminances,
so they are in need of white luminance control; and ambient light
control.

Which would probably indicate that your ambient light is too high for

I already had Firefox but didn't know about DownLoadHelper. I installed that plug-in and bingo, Downloaded all the videos.
Our webmaster has promised to add download links to all the videos as well, though people will still need a viewer that can run Flash videos.
