Capacitor question

2016-03-08 by loren_ludwig

hi there, [i think my last crack at this question didn't get posted, for some reason...apologies for potential duplication]

i'm breadboarding this ring modulator and it's not working, yet. i think i might have screwed up the capacitors. in the schematic, the 1µF capacitors are fixed (unpolarized), right? polarized caps won't work, right?

thanks!

Loren

You'd be better taking something like this to muffwiggler.com. It has nothing to do with CGS.

In the schematic: caps are unpolarized. 1uF can be found in ceramic through hole. Ceramic are unpolarized. Depending on the orientation of the caps and the polarity of your input signal, using a polarized might work. A working configuration is using a positive only input signal with a polarized cap. The + leg must be connected to the wiper of the pot in this case.

I you used a polarized cap in the wrong direct it may be damaged. Electrolytic caps can leak or explode when plugged in the wrong direction, so beware.

An unpolarized cap will work with any input signal and you don't have to worry on its orientation.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
