Greetings (future Korg DW-8000 / BCR user)

2009-01-21 by b21manatarms

Hello all,

I thought I would introduce my self and congratulate you all on a
great resource. I've been a BCR2000 user for a couple of years and I'm
on the verge of buying a Korg DW-8000. I almost went for an Alpha Juno
because it is so MIDI-learn-friendly, but seeing what's available here
has encouraged me to go with the Korg.

I've seen that there is a DW-6000 preset available in the 'files'
section and that there have already been one or two discussions about
the 8000. I can't find any sign of a definitive preset for the 8000
though, so that's my goal.

I do have a (very) basic understanding of the protocols involved and
the software available, and plan to supplement that by reading through
the wealth of links on here. But I should warn that I'll be asking
some very dumb questions over the next couple of weeks!

Hopefully, with a bit/lot of help from you kind folk, I'll have that
definitive DW-8000 preset for the BCR2000 uploaded before too long.
Wish me luck!

Cheers,
Joe

Oh, I've just spotted this thread from a couple of years ago. It looks
like all the detective work is done - just a case of writing the
complete script.

Thank you! I'm picking up a DW-8000 on my way home tonight, and I'll be putting this to
work straight away..

Option & Play Clip = stop channel instead of stop specific clip?

2009-02-21 by James Glover

After a lot of frustration with the build quality of the unit, I'm back using my BCR2000 and a bespoke version of Mackie Mode 5.0a that I made using BCManager (basically just copying and pasting, and freeing up some encoders and buttons). I've (re)-concluded that it is actually the best controller for Ableton, and am prepared to live with the rather shabby assembly, and possibly even just accept I'll need to replace it once in a while. I guess it's not expensive really.

Anyway... I've just about got my perfect set-up now. One final touch that would make me really happy is to have the ability to stop a channel playing with the Option & Play combo, which currently just stops the specific clip. It can take considerably longer to navigate to the clip, which when performing is an issue. You can obviously also click play in an empty clip, providing the stop button hasn't been removed, but since only one clip can be playing at one time in a channel, it would seem sensible for the Option & Play button combo to stop the channel regardless of which row you are on.

This is beyond my programming abilities at the moment, so any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks,
James.

Windows Live Hotmail just got better. Find out more!

James.
Have you found a mackie command that will do this?
Or a command from another control surface that will do this?
I wanted to have a stop any clips playing on a track. I could not
find a command to do this. Nor a keyboard shortcut for that matter.

Have you posted your edited preset yet? With doc, explanation.

Kip,

No, I was just hoping it was possible! It isn't actually a huge deal, I can easily live with the current method.

I will get my preset 'released' in time. The thing is that I've modified it to work around my broken encoder, which wouldn't be much good for other people! However, I will make a version that utilises all encoders and get that out to everyone. It's not really anything other than a rejigged version of yours though I have to say. I haven't really coded it, I just cut and paste things and created some assignable buttons and encoders. My level of progamming understanding is very basic.

Hi guys,

I'm new to this group and I am wondering where to find that bespoken DW8000 map? I know that this thread is already a couple of years old, but as I couldn't find anything within the attachments I thought I'd contact you via a group message.

I fact I bought the BCR very recently (3 days ago) for mainly three reasons; the first begin that my DW6000 and DW8000 to have more & more problems reacting on either the keyboard or the control buttons (Yes, I know I can fix that but I do currently not have the time for), the second being that I was also looking for a elegant way to control from an external device all my other Rack synths as well and the third was the very positiv reviews and messages I found on this very group.

The question now is, as said, where to find this very map (if still existing) and how to load it into the BCR (I guess this can also be done via the BC Manager).

Cheers, Armand

Hi Armand
Perhaps you might like to look at my website where I have a video and some files of my attempt to connect the DW6k to a BCR via a PC.

Thanks Royce,

That really looks great. Do you think it might also work for the DW8000 without having to rewrite & compile the program? Or are the Sysex Params of both synths completly different?

Cheers, Armand

Hi Armand
> Thanks Royce,
Pleasure

> That really looks great. Do you think it might also work for the DW8000 without having to rewrite & compile the program? Or are the Sysex Params of both synths completly different?

One of the reasons I choose to do this is because the DX6k has packed data (2 or more parameters in the one data byte) and the BCR can't handle this kind of sysex.

The DW8k doesn't do this and has more parameters and the parameters are in a different order. So a port of the code is required.

I have had a couple of inquiries about a DW8K version. The only trouble is that I don't have a DW8k to test the code.

As you have both (and so, you can get it going with the DW6k first) I am tempted to port the code if you are willing to test it for me.

Let me know.

All the best
