Vintage Simmons Drums (UK) Users Group

hi guys,
i have no experience in edrums, just accoustic, but due to my limited
space in my flat, and the limited acceptance of my neighbours, i am
looking to buy a used simmons kit incl. controller.

i am based in the UK, if anyone here knows where to get it, would
really apprechiate any hints.

Ebay seems to be fairly popular at the moment..

That said, Roland do some nice electronic kits and Clavia..

thanks to all for your remarks. tried ebay, unfortunatly lost 2
auctions there already, and simmons drums dont come very often.

also tried that shop out, looks good, but somehow i feel attracted by
simmons. may be also cos one of my all-times fav drummer used one as
2nd kit on stage.

if anyone here knows someone who would sell his, please let me know.

do u just collect em or u buy it to use it as ur 1st
kit?

my fav drummer was HERWIG MITTEREGGER, he was drummer
of german rock band SPLIFF in the early 80s. also
another of my heroes NEIL PEART used simmons pads.

if u know of anyone selling a kit pls let me know ok.

my kit at home is a SONOR kit, with force 3000 toms,
and signature snare and bassdrum. chose to set it up
manually, cos the bassdrum sound of the signature is
bombastic, but the toms of the force 3000 suit me
more. snare i bought afterwards, a real snapup, had it
for 20 percent of the original price. used pearl
snares before, also had a sonor force 2000 snare as
replacement when playing live.

Myself, I like to use it..
I've got an SDS8, for which I built a MIDI interface ;-

What I want now is something like an SDS7 or 9, something with EPROM
playback, though I could build myself one (I did once before).

Have you used any of those 'pick ups' you can get, which attach to your
existing kit to give you MIDI?
I'm not a drummer, but I like the idea of using a real drummer, but with
electronic sounds.

All,

  Website is looking good, I've not uploaded it yet as I've got a couple
more PDFs to convert and Protect (crediting the person who gave them to me
and also the website, so people will know if they've been ripped off buying
something they could've had for free).

  Hopefully, I should get that done today and I'll upload the site tomorrow,
we've got a LOT of stuff, also things I've never heard of (SDS2000 anyone?).
This is going to be a GREAT website, thanks to everyone who's given me stuff
so far.

hey paul,
if u like i might be able to send u an mp3 of a spliff song with
edrums. herwig played live both kits, an accoustic kit was at the left
side of the stage, the simmons throned on a huge raiser in the middle,
where drummers usually are.
if i remember correctly, he used a 6piece kit, 3 pads as toms, 1 snare
and 1 floor pad. and the bassdrum pad of course. cymbals were all
"normal".

personally i experimented with a LP trigger pad, which i used to get
sounds from an ENSONIQ Mirage sampler. i had a keyboard sampler at
home, where i sampled myself, and also another friend of mine sampled
too. on stage our keyboarder had a mirage rack sampler, so i could use
that stuff on stage.

I do wonder why Dave Simmons never made any 'cymbals', it seems odd.

It seems funny that not many people seem to be doing this now, I mean
triggering samples and stuff from their drum kits..
