Re: [Simmons Drums] SDS9 Help!

Re: [Simmons Drums] SDS9 Help!

Hi Bryun and everyone!

I have the same problem with my "new" SDS9. I think that if there is no manual it is almost impossible to use the gear propperly. Compared to my SDS5 the SDS9 is rather a beast ;-)
Please, if anyone has a manual and could put it online DO IT! It would be such a great help... Having a SDS9 and can't using it is like having a cake and can't eat it ;-)

Thanks a lot in advance

Hey, I just got the SDS9 , and at first couldn't even get it to
turn on.. I somehow fized it and now I have it turning on. I am
having a hard time figuring it out. I figured out how to switch
between which drum to edit, but for some reason, the snare/rim sounds
will NOT come out of the mix or stereo outputs, only out of their own
output! What is this and how can I fix it? Plus, i there an online
manual? Any other advice for this machine would be very appreciated!

I have an SDS9 user manual, but it'll take ages to scan. Also there's
not much space in the files area. Do you have any specific questions
I can look up for you or sections you'd like scanned first?

Hi Steve!

Well to be honest I can't use my SDS9 at all. The Autoplay works but I don't figure out how to select sounds or kits etc.
Is there a page in the manual like a "quick overlook" or so? That would be a great start. How many pages does the manual have? If you should scan it I could put the manual on my page make a download possible for everyone.

If you have a paypal-account I would even offer to pay you... thanks in advance!

hi
sds9 manuals turn up on ebay often
i got my paper copy after realising that after 10 years away i could not remember how to run it and if you intend to run midi you'll need it for sure
and it is a scanned item but good quality
plan b would be to purchase the scanned manual and download it of steve glinsky
http://www.markglinsky.com/ManualManor.html
he has a most things it seems including a sde manual which i intend to get myself at some point as i could never work that one out last time round
but to scan and say pdf it to is going to take time and effort
best to spend a little with someone who has them already
when i got a sdx a while back without the manual i ended up buying a second sdx mainly as it has the printed manuals (original) with it and that is near 500 pages double sided !! so days work there to scan if i could have found it
regards

I have made a strange discovery- I can hear the snare/rim only
through their output when the plug is halfway in the jack! What is
this, does it need repairs? I can trigger it but only hear it when I
have it through its own output, with the plug half in like I said.
This makes no sense to me! why can't I hear it through the miz out?
If you can find anything to help me in the manual.. please tell me!

Are you using a stereo cable? If not, this is what I
think is happening.

Assuming, its not been modified, I would suspect the jack sockets are worn
out or even dirty.
That would be the first thing I would look at.

If you're able to (and you don't mind), photocopy it and post it to me, I'll
scan it and put it up as a PDF.

Hauke,

I have very little information/documentation for the simmons range.
Only bits and pieces I've grabbed from the net.
Once the basic site is up, if you guys (and girls?) have anything that¹s not
there, please let me know and I'll add it.

Hi Paul (and everyone else)!

I helped Hermann scanning the PPG-brochures a couple of years ago and building up a Simmons-site is a great idea... just my 2 cents :-)
Actually I have an old brochure of the Simmons-System I could scan and mail to you as a pdf (page per page or in total). Or I put it in the download-section here?

I bet there are many Simmons-gems out there that should be reanimated just for the punch of it :-) Just listen to "Strange" by Cameo and put it out loud... I bet that everyone of you has a favourite Simmons-Track.

Just one question: are you about to put up a new site or will "we" add everything to the simmons-forum at yahoo?

Cheers
Hauke

I used a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol to clean out the jacks
but they were pretty clean on their own. I do think my cables are
stereo, but I am unsure as to how to tell exactly? The cleaning of
the jacks made no difference. I noticed upomn opening it up that most
of the jacks have two contact prongs that touch the plug, however
both the stereo out and snare/rim have three. I don't get it. The
snare/rim can not be heard when the jack reaches the third prong,
only when touching the first and second. And still no sound from them
out of the stereo or mix jacks. I maybe need to have a professional
see this?

It's 60 pages, but I'll try to get the first few done this week.

I won't take money for it, but thanks for the offer.

I also have a TMI and SDE user manuals, and a serious
shortage of time to scan stuff...

Well, if it's a factory made cable there are two "bands" of insulating
material on the plug itself. A mono plug only has one. If it's a home-brew
it can be a mono anyway, then you have to open and check the cord, if there
is two or three soldering points at either end...

Yes, 2=mono, 3 =stereo (one ground and 1 or 2 signal)

Check the wires used or try another and maybe change the socket itself.

I'd prefer a mailed copy (off list), I don't have access to the download section
on yahhogroups.

hehe, 'too shy' by Kajagoogoo.

I'll be adding a new site, seperate from Yahoo.
That way people can use it, without giving their email address to the world.

how many 'sections' do you see on them?
Mono jack have one tip and one large section (2 in total).
Stereo ones have a tip, a ring, and a large section (3 in total)

> I noticed upomn opening it up that most
> of the jacks have two contact prongs that touch the plug, however

That makes sense, at least to me,
I guess the tip would be snare and the ring would be the rim, but it might be
the other way around.
