SDSV Cymbal Card Repair?

SDSV Cymbal Card Repair?

2018-11-23 by tom@...

Hi all,

I just recently acquired an SDSV cymbal card, but upon inspection, it appears that one of the components on the auxiliary board is missing. I uploaded a pic of a hihat card with the part that is missing on the cymbal card circled in red. It is at https://i.imgur.com/iQyGBXY.jpg. I am guessing this is a transistor of some sort, but I am not sure. Would someone here know more about this part, and where I might acquire one. Better yet, would any of the gurus on this list be able to make the necessary repairs for a fee?

Thanks,

Thomas

Looks like a voltage regulator to me.

The cards only get +/-15V (according to the schematic) but some of the
digital stuff needs +5V.

Could be merely an 7805.

The schematic doesn't show it though; but it shows the need for +5V.

I am unable to read the part number stamped on the device from your picture, but based on the case style it looks like a power transistor or power regulator?

If the part number is a standard part number, I have had good luck searching on eBay and some of the Asian sellers actually have the original parts available, many years after they became unavailable.

If the part number turns out to be a house number, meaning that it was stamped with an “in-house” or internal number only know to Simmons, then you will need to source out the documentation if it’s still available, that provides the conversion from the house number to the standard part number and then go from there.

My guess is that this part was removed because it was defective and the previous tech could not find a suitable replacement, due to my reasons listed above. You may want to check with the other forum members to see if anyone has any additional information on this part and if the original is no longer a available, then may a substitute may be found that will do the job. With the rarity of that module, it’s definitely worth perusing.

Good Luck

Tony

It's a 7805 1A 5V voltage regulator.  Still very widely available and for pennies

After pulling a hi-hat card from a different unit, I found that the component missing is a LM340T5 7805 voltage regulator. I was able to source one from eBay this morning. Let's hope that is all that is wrong with this card!
