SDSV Pricing

SDSV Pricing

2018-11-02 by brent.burlingham@...

I'm thinking about selling my SDSV. It's in excellent shape, and everything works.

Prices on eBay have ranged from $1,000 to $4,000.

What would a fair price be for this unit?

If anyone on the forum is interested, let me know. I'd rather sell it to someone who appreciates it's history and value.

Hi,

I noticed that the price for SDSV increase since some years.
Before, it was possible to buy a fully operational unit about 500€. The only thing that changed the price was a special card like cymbal or hi-hat!
The SDSV is basic. There are not µprocessor and the assembling is solid. You can use it for many years to come.
If you need it and you thing the price seems reasonable, buy it.

Hi,

sorry, Ididn't see that you want to sell your unit.
I noticed that if the price is greater than 1000€, the bidder do not purchase it. This unit dates from the 80s and today it's easy to play the same sound with a sampler.
It's not easy to find the right balance.

I think we are many that might be of another opinion. ;)

But yes, I got what you meant and for live purposes and similar there
are far easier gear to move around etc.

I have samples of the SDSV, but they do not sound as good as the real thing. There's something about the filters they used in the SDSV that is quite unique.

Analog vs. digital I suppose. I love analog!

If I decide to sell (which I'm now leaning towards not doing) I'll try eBay.

Thanks for the opinions.

If you want the best solution try the VSDSX of Aly James Lab, no samples but analog emulation... sounds like a almost real one ... and you can load the original .bin file of the EPROM like SDS 7 or SDSV hi hat or cymbal card ... i tried is VS a real one ... go to the site and download the manual ...

Sample won't do it — its static. One need VA to emulate analog oscillator and analog envelopes/VCA. SDS-V has a very simple synth engine so good result can be had with a computer to create sounds on itself.

But drummers appreciate the direct feel of real analog drums without any latency. And rocking through a big PA nothing compares to the real analog machines.
For sound designers in studio there is also a different creative mindset working on hardware synths.

But to me personally prices on eBay are really off the hinges. Altough I love my SDS-V & 7 and have no plan to sell, — if I had to pay current eBay prices and not needing the kit to play live I definetly sink the money into modular synth modules over most Simmons.

Very true in so many ways... I just finished a song with SDS-IV kick and
snare and to this day I'm having a hard time reproducing that on other
gear. And if the decay is too long or the click too weak, it's fixed in
seconds compare to VA-tweaking or even worse - sampling.

But yes, Ebay prices are scary, bordering on jokes.
