sounds like you don't have a maual
to fully explore what a sds9 can do i'd suggest tracking a manual down there is a lot of depth to the unit with regards to midi implementation but it needs a maual to explain
also note the stero pad for snare rim combo
the sounds aside fron the snare which is digital and thus depends on the sample the rest are nice fat simmons
back in the day i used my sds 9 as the midi trigger for a mtx9 tom expander an sde expander and in later days a akai s1000 and alisis modules s4? ( can't remember the name)
the only limit was the fact it was a five piece kit

I have been looking for a Simmons for a while and I just got a
set of red pads and an sds9 off of ebay. In theory, any pads will
trigger any module, correct? I am making a bare minimum kit that is
actually ment to be played standing up. Any body have any opinions on
the sounds of the sds9?

Hi & Welcome,
what about the SDS9 sounds you say ?
If you like Simmons it's a great machine, if you don't you will find it sadly old school !

I consider the toms nearly as fat as the SDSV, & the "second skin" parameter is a great feature.
The eprom snare is good & you can change it (if you can have access to other eproms or burn yours if you get the Simmons EPB or oberheim one...)
I love the Kick that I find very efficient too ...

finally one of the most efficient SImmons kit ...

Hope it helps...
Best Wishes from France.
Patrice.
