Vintage Simmons Drums (UK) Users Group

Hi Jesper,
Musicaid company collapsed in nov 1981...
they moved & opened a new company at Abbey Mills in St Albans about april of 1982 ...
I think it was already Simmons limited...they did produced 10 SDSV a months & had quickly a demand of 400 in the same amount of time.
In the end of 83 they moved to a bigger place in StAlbans park...25000 square feet factory with offices , canteen toilets production lines & workbenches ...
They then built SDS7 & SDS8 ...

When did the Simmons gear stop wearing the logo for music aid and start
wearing the simmons logo?
AFAIK the following gear was made with Music Aid logotype:

SDS-III
SDS-IV
Clap Trap (the analogue and first version)

I have also seen the Music Aid logo on a few SDS-V modules I once owned but
there cannot be many of those around I guess... My SDS-2 only has the
Simmons name but since it outdates the company, being a one off by Dave,
it's not the logo we're used to see...

Hi Jesper,

I'll go along with what Patrice says about company history, and add
that the first Clap Trap was made with both the Simmons and Musicaid
logo (I've a Simmons-logo'd one). There were quite a few modules
made for the SDS-V with the Musicaid logo (I also _think_ one of my
SDS-V chassis has Musicaid on it too).

Then Simmons Electronics became Simmons Digital Music, then
Soundunit, and then as we all know, nothing :-(

I was in St Albans a while ago and went to the old Alban Park
factory - still recognisable from the photos in the Complete Simmons
Drum Book but doesn't look half as interesting...
