Various Simmons units available

Various Simmons units available

2016-07-18 by Chris Wareham

Hi folks,

A music equipment leasing company near where I live have been having a clear out
of their old stock. They have a few items of Simmons equipment and I'm wondering
if they're worth me making an offer for. The first one is an SDS9 drum brain
along with the MTX9 tom expander. The other two items are the SPM mixer and the
MTM trigger to MIDI unit. I'm interested in the SDS9 and expander, and I was
wondering what would be a sensible price to offer for them. If anyone's
interested in the other items then I could put you in touch with the company.
They also have a Pearl DRX-1 drum brain. I need to test it, and it does have a
dent in the front of the metal case, but they sound rather good according to
what I've heard on YouTube. Again, if anyone's interested in making an offer on
it then I can pass on contact details.

Cheers,

Chris

I forgot to mention that the MTM comes with the funny little trigger unit that
has sixteen pads.

Very subjective opinions from yours truly:

SDS-9 - cool unit that's prone to breakdowns. If sold untested, avoid.
If OK, then try getting it! 100 GBP/150 USD would be a bargain.

MTX9 - I personally hate that piece of crap. Uninspiring... Latino
percussion is a huge part of the 80's that wasn't worthremembering. :)

MTM - still the best midi converter there is. Where in the world are we?
I might be interested to give an offer if they send or you can act as a
courier. :)

DRX-1 - Very competent unit. Built like a tank and easy to edit despite
the buttons. Should cost the same as the SDS-9 in my opinion.

That's the kind of price I was thinking of offering. I'll have to test it out
and see whether it's functional.

I was assuming it was a further set of analogue voices, but if it's just Latin
percussion then I'll give it a miss.

That should be no problem. I'll see if I can test it and get some quotes for
shipping. Assuming it does work, what kind of price would you want to offer. I
think the company are keen just to clear out some equipment they're unlikely to
get requests for anymore, so they wont be looking for top prices.

Hmm, might have to make them an offer for that as well!
