SDE Memory Cartridge info request

SDE Memory Cartridge info request

2014-11-23 by edrose1@...

Anyone out there know what's inside the SDE Memory Cartridge? Is it just an HM6264LP-15 RAM chip like on the PCB?

Thanks in advance!

HI, yes i think so. Most external RAM cards use the same chip...i can name numbers of examples so why should this be different. ;) just copy the part of the internal ram circuit going to the cpu. Just adding only an extra chip wont work, it will need some extra circuitry to adress the ext. ram chip. There are schematics available of the Siel DK80 ram card...it uses the same ic. Maybe it will help you ikndentify the other circuitry concerning the SDS.

Thanks for the info, everyone - very much appreciated.

The schematic I found for the Siel uses a 6116 which is only 16k and requires a battery to hold memory. Let me know if that's the wrong schematic.

Regarding Phil's post, what value of capacitor is required for decoupling? And, would it be as simple as a straight 1:1 wiring with the resistors and capacitor between the PCB and 6264?

It's a .47uF tantalum capacitor for decoupling but I doubt the value is critical.

You can't just parallel all the connections from the existing 6264, you also need to take the relevant chip select lines from the edge connector. There's also a write protect switch that ties /WE high if the switch is set to protect mode (and switches /WE through from the edge connector when not in protect mode)

I think I scribbled down a schematic at some point, send me a message with your email address and I'll try to find it and send over.

Hi,

You also will need a battery to hold memory for the 6264 on the card otherwise the ram wont hold its memory. ;)
Here is the data sheet for the 6264

i was under the assumption that the simmons boxes all used the same memory cart. even the SDS6

Yes that one will do...as a matter of fact..if its a 6264 its a 6264 ;) there are just different manufacturers that use different pre suffix;s etc...

good luck and keeps us up to date about your progress (Y)
