Update: Musicaid/Simmons Clap Trap II Buttons

Update: Musicaid/Simmons Clap Trap II Buttons

2014-08-19 by sovereigng@...

I have solved my problem. Use this post as a reference if you find yourself in the same situation.
1) The original momentary switches are manufactured by Cherry. They're still in business but I don't see anything that looks like the switches in the Clap Trap. I'll keep looking.
2) I reassembled switch (moderately difficult because there's an internal spring and I'm blind) and glued it shut. I didn't want to apply glue all the way around in case I have to reopen it nor did I want to glue the moving parts inside. Amazing what you can accomplish w/ lighted magnifying eyeglasses and a toothpick. Don't get old, guys.
3) I had applied a clamp to the two small retaining tabs that hold the switch in the shell of the Clap Trap in order to straighten them out. They suffered as I wrestled the switch from the body. Now, the switch fits into the body w/ little play as if it were new.
4) The humanizer function is now defeatable. In real world (or my world) conditions I never have to turn it off because I'm triggering it from drum machines rather than its own timer but I can't stand when gear is not fully operational. I feel cheated.
Thanks for listening..

Good effort :)

I had exactly the same problem, and many months of checking suppliers, ebay and other electronics forums led to a dead end for these buttons.

I did the same as you, glued the damaged one together, and it's been working fine ever since.

And to add, try not to damage any of the pots on Simmons gear as good replacements are just as difficult to find...

Thanks for checking in regarding this post. I thought that the members were wiped out by a Martian bacteria or something. I expected one or two responses within an hour with all the regulars checking in within 24. I guess that analog Claptraps are mysterious and/or not considered important enough to collect or use. I didn't think much of this box when I bought it or for years afterward. It's a one trick pony, after all. But tuned and used in the right context it's much more than a novelty. I'm enjoying mine and more so now that I can turn that damned light off.

Stay cool.

Oh no, it's not a one trick pony! :-o It's great for many percussive
noises and I have both mark 1 and 2. But I have no source for the
controls though...

Hi there,
I've got some spares but didn't see any of that yet.
I'll let you know if I can find any. At the moment I doubt,

Same experience for me about the Claps...I love the analog & digital claptrap now I've had some in my hands...
At first I considered them like useless having a few sds at home, but in fact what a really genuine little box !! :)
Very useful in studio & used with other peripherics. I couldn't get rid of them now !

good luck.
P.

I, too, have SDS-Vs, SDS-7s and a dismantled SDS-1000. All good stuff that makes any Claptrap seem silly and nearly useless. But, as you say, great for studio use. Very easy to use. Very easy to EQ. The hardest part is deciding how to make it sound because as you sweep frequencies you find many options. I started playing around with the snare drum from Oberheim DX as the trigger and discovered how nicely it sharpens the snare sound. It makes me wish I had used it on every recording I'd made over the last ten years.
As Jesper said: Not a one trick pony.
If you can find the parts in your collection I'd gladly buy one from you.
