SDS6 valuation

SDS6 valuation

2014-07-27 by philmurr@...

Hi all -

I've a pretty good idea of the going rate of most Simmons kit, but was wondering what people thought of the price of an SDS-6, working, non-MIDI, good condition.

I've been offered one and the seller suggested £1500.  Too much I think, but not being able to find any that have sold for a  l o n g  time I can't really argue the price.  In any case that's too much for me to pay, but I wondered what other people thought it might be worth.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Phil.

1500 seems inflated. I'd guess 600-900. More if it had MIDI. But, with vintage gear - especially those with very low production numbers -  I'm sure there's someone out there that'd find it a steal.

The SDS6 is one of the less common pieces of Simmons kit. Not many were built when compared to some of the other products. As I candy when they are in use they look great

As to what they are worth is in the eye of the beholder I guess. Like many collectables, it is worth what potential buyers are willing to pay. If you believe the going price is fair AND you must have one, then go for it. They don't come up for sale that often and sometimes a missed opportunity is later regretted.

As to the midi units, I agree they are probably the most valuable as most sources agree only around 6 but no more than 10 factory midi units were built. I own one of these and it would take some serious arm twisting to get me to part with it as it is in near new condition (looks pretty much factory fresh).

As to the Simmons SDS6 ...

There was less than 110 ever made.
How many are still around?
probably 50?  maybe less?

Super rare, Beautiful to look at and fairly easy to program.

Still very useful even in the modular age...

Kinda awesome.
