OOOOOOOooooooooooo...... nice!
Well done.

A few years ago there were some SDS9 Pads on Ebay that someone painted Pink...

It's actually pretty cool to see these things in non stock colours. :-)

Cheers

Hi there,  that's one cool paint job!  Do u know how to fix the pad tightener?  2 of my sds9 pads screws no longer tighten to the mount.  It seems no one knows how to fix this.  Any idea?  Thanks.

Common problem..... the threads on the square Tension Rod tend to strip when overtightened. The pad actually does need that much of a grasp from the internal pad clamp in order to remain fastened in place...

However, remove and take the stripped Rod with you to a music shop and find one of similar length... and unless the other bit in the pad is stripped as well (usually those are stronger than the Lug and less likely to strip) your pad clamp will tighten up nicely. Just don't over tighten....

Cheers
Alan

Hey Alan, thanks for the info but how do you remove the stripped rod?  I don't see any screw around the trim to remove the rubber trim.  Unless, I can use a flathead screwdriver to lift the rubber trim?  Sounds like a delicate job.  My apology as I do not have much experience with Simmons.

Thanks.

if there are good bolts in one of your other pads remove one of those and try it in the pad with no bolt present.a small amount of grease on the bolt will help avoid future damage.

then is the bolt works either take that to a store  [or the whole pad]. i'm pretty sure these bolts were also used in the simmons rack as well so if you see a rack clamp for sale on eBay , that may suit.

don't lever up the rubber !!...the 'nut' part of the clamp is only accessible from below.
removing the shells [the coloured underside] is a bit fiddly and there are catching clips which tend to snap off..these are half way along each flat edge.
If you do need to remove the shell..try putting your finger or a drumstick into the hole where the tom arm fits...and press down on the shell..if you can get this side up a little and wedge a small screwdriver in place to stoip it simply popping back , i then usually place a very small screwdriver gently down each flat side , halfway along...don't press hard or you'll snap off the clip...when you feel the driver hit home try to gently lever the shell away from the black framework...you will then see the tom are clamp.

good luck...it's pretty fiddly !!

cheers.

I assumed that you had SDS9 pads.... my apologies. With those you simply unscrew the square headed Tension Rod from where it is located in the top of the pad. Use a drum Key and turn counter clockwise.. the rod should eventually come right out (unless it is stripped really bad... in which case you may need to pull up on the rod as you turn it to get it out.

If you have an SDS5 or any other pad that has the "T Handle" type clamp tightener mechanism, the same applies. Look for a stripped thread inside the T Handle or on the shaft it screws onto.
Sadly, I don't have any left but a stripped T Handle can likely be had from someone on this Forum if you ask nicely....

Cheers
Alan

Looks very nice! I’d like something besides black, but I am afraid of ruining mine with bad painting skills
