Looking for SDS knob caps

Looking for SDS knob caps

2014-01-13 by <scott@...>

I recently scored an SDS800 in near-mint condition, which I picked up to replace my old one which - although working 100% - has some spots of corrosion and faded silk screening.  The only thing wrong with this one was that it had some knob caps missing. "No big deal", I thought, "I'll just swap those with my old SDS800 which looks tough anyway." When I got it home though I realized the color schemes don't match(?!) Instead of being the typical blue, green & beige that I see most often, this one (with an earlier serial number) has sea-green, forest green & beige. I took a few photos:

Everything else looks the same except for the color of the power cord (earlier=black, newer=grey).

Assuming this was done at Simmons, and not by a previous owner, I guess Simmons realized that the two greens were too similar and changed the sea-green over to blue at some point...

Anyway, I need some replacement knob caps! Does anyone have two spare beiges and two of this sea-green?

hoping,
- Scott

have you tried jameco or mouser that sells instrumentation parts?

if you measure one of th caps you have you may be able to find direct replacements...

Re: [Simmons Drums] Looking for SDS knob caps

Hi Group,

Speaking of missing parts I would need 1 knob cap for the knob of a SDS-V module and 1 knob cap for the knob of a SDS-7 module. (maybe you have one of each for me Ed ?)

Also for some reason I just can't figure out how I lost the fuse holder of my SDS-V rack !
So if anyone one on the list have one for spare I am interested, please get back to me off list !

Thanks,
Phil

Re: Looking for SDS knob caps

I tried & came up empty-handed with Mouser, Jameco and also Conrad (who
only ship inside the EU, but I've had success with them before where my
USA sources failed). Couldn't find an exact replacement.

I found some that look like they might work from the UK eBay, listed as
"15mm Plastic Mixer Control Knob for 6mm Flatted D-Shaft Pots, Coloured
Caps". The shaft has fewer ribs, but otherwise they look very close. I
ordered some, so even if they aren't exactly the same, at least I'll have
an indicator line to show me where my settings are.

all my best,
- Scott

Actually I'm also missing a light grey knob cap (Mic. Sensitivity knob) and a white plastic "glove" on the Overall Pitch slider of my SDS-3. In case someone reading this has 1 of each please contact me off list.

Thanks,
Phil
