Simmons SDSV output to 1/8" Eurorack

Simmons SDSV output to 1/8" Eurorack

2013-08-17 by chris

Hi,

I have a Simmons SDSV drum brain that I'm trying to use with my eurorack setup. Basically, I just need to make a cable that is XLR to 1/8" mono (Simmons SDSV Left, Right, or Mix out) and I'm a little stuck. I already tried bridging the 1 and 3 pins on an XLR to ground and connecting the 2 pin to the tip, but it didn't work.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Bridge 1 and 2, connect to Sleeve and connect 3 to tip ;)

from WIKI ( and manual ) :

Outputs were balanced XLRs for live and studio applications (pins 1 & 2 ground, pin 3 hot), however the XLR pad input wiring on the SDS-V was unconventional - the User Manual states that pin 2 is hot and pins 1 & 3 are ground. Each module also had a 1/4" jack trigger input allowing triggering from various sources including the SDS-6 and even audio (for example from a drum machine).

so, the US pin 2 scheme wouldn't work too well.

i suggest:

1, open up the back panel and flip pins 2/3 where needed to make it US proper pinout.

2, do a pin 3 to tip cable ( ignoring level matching )

3, or get a level matching interface that can unbalance it for you ( +4 XLR to -10 1/4" )

I've been meaning to flip my SDSV pins for a while.

there's some info here:

I would not convert the signal level down to -10. No need to do that....
