SDS 6/7 Mem Cart - need dimension info

SDS 6/7 Mem Cart - need dimension info

2013-07-03 by Richard

Work is progressing on a cart clone in various forms. I need to know
what the overall outside dimensions are of an original cartridge. My reason for this is that in the process of developing a new cart, it has come to mind that I could also design a baseboard that plugs into the SDS 6/7 cart port that allows you to fit say 4 to 8 carts and select the one to use. This would be great for existing cart owners and also allow "mass" storage until I can design a new cart that allows USB and SDCARD storage. (this unit is more work that in looks, it needs an lcd display, keypad etc and would be a stadn alone device that plugs into the cart port via a ribbon cable)

If some one can supply the cart dimensions I will know how far a distance between sockets I would need for the multi cart base board

Just uploaded 5 pics of the 3d rendering of an alternate version of the memory cart. It still uses old school "through hole" components as each one would be hand built to order. If interest was strong enough for a "standard" 4k memory cart, I would do them PCB's as surface mount and get a batch of them made in china or similar (to keep cost down) then fit them into cases. If this path was taken I'd have to order a minimum of around 50 units.

As stated previously,my ultimate aim is to produce a unit that connects to the cart port on an SDS 6/7 that emulates the RAM connections. This would be done via a microcontroller or FPGA that would include an SDCARD and or USB connectivity. The unit would have an LCD display and a few buttons and connect to the cart port via a cable. Having USB would allow for software on a PC that would allow "offline" editing of stored parameters and data for the SDS 6/7. Don't hold your breath as this would be a more complex job for a unit of this kind.

In the interim, the current cart set up would suffice, though I am looking at a "multi cart" base board.

How much interest is there in all this? How many of you would be after carts? I'm going to try and keep the cost as low as possible so the numbers interested in a cart or 2 needs to be at least estimated.

Oh and the cases would be black...clear rendering in the pics only for my purpose to see fitment

Hi,
I would definitely take two of your cards, one for my SDS-6 and one for my SDS-7. Probably a third one, but it
also really depends on the price. Do you have something in mind concerning the price ?
And I'm sure a lot of people would want to have one on this group as well :-)
Best,
Thomas

I would be interested in 2 pieces also, depending on price.

I'd like to know about an estimated price. But if that feels good I'm in
for one or more! :)

Put me down for two carts for my SDS7.

I do not own an SDS7 but I've been watching this thread and this is a fantastic thing to see. My faith in humanity is (somewhat) restored. Respect :-)
