xln audio.com using simmons

Although i enjoy the simmons sounds ,has anyone used addictive drums or reel machines using simmons pads being only one peizo and how well does it respond ompared to roland ect?.What i would really like to see is mandella drums join partners with the former simmons company and reproduce the simmons sds x in the hex pad shape (a classic}that i would buy.Would like to otherwise convert them to hex pads as they should fit inside the simmons, thanks

Yes, I did. Concerning the dynamic response Simmons pads, no matter if they are SDS5, SDS9 or Hexaheads cannot compete with any Roland pad of their current generation. If you are fine with less dynamic range than it will work for you (as good or bad as it worked 25 years ago). For the particular purpose of playing VST drums I pimped a set of SDSV pads using Mesh heads: http://blog.simmonsmuseum.com/?p=166
Those respond really great!

Is it the pads or the interface that's giving you the dynamics you are looking for? A Piezo should have a fairly7 unlimited dynamic range shouldn't it?

Was your comparison of the Simmons VS Roland pads done with the same interface? Or is there something beyond the Dynamic response you are referring to that was better?

Pads have moved on considerably since riot sheild, be it alesis, roland, koby etc. If you're looking for a trigger interface then I would recomend the megadrum - takes any pads, mesh heads and cymbals and is very competatively priced.

But Megadrum is pure hell to program. You should calculate several weeks to get it running as you want it to. If you survive that struggle it's very fast and powerfull

There are settings for pads, cymbals and hi hats on the site. No more complicated than MTM.

xln audio.com using simmons

in trying to get the best of both worlds, simmons drums looks plus the sounds but also able to play acoustic sounds i would like to use xln addictive drums.Doing research on websites it looks like the new pads otherthan rolands use the same method as the hexhead drums by simmons. Just wondering how well the the hex pads would work in this application as i noticed they are not as resposive enough as the rubber pads. Also took out all the foam and steel plate and did a mock up of the cone above the piezo with skin overtop but just as unresponsive. Is it the comuter program by xln that makes it work in this situation?Trying to think of a way to make simmons pads from scratch but stretching mesh overtop with the cone system inside ,so it will look like a sds 5 pad but modern to todays systems.Any advice Thanks
