Simmons SDS1 issues...crazy arcade noises!

Simmons SDS1 issues...crazy arcade noises!

2012-09-14 by philbanksdj

Hi everyone, hopefully someone can help me.

I've recently purchased 3 SDS1 drum pads...and they all seem to have the same issue.

I'm powering them off batteries, not psu at this moment in time, as I don't have a psu for them.

When I hit the pad they make mad arcade type 8 bit noises, even when the eprom isn't plugged in. and when the eprom chips are in place you can hardly hear them due to the other noise being generated.

All three units have the same problem...

does anyone have any idea what could be causing this please? I don't think its an eprom issue due to the fact the noise is generated when hitting the pad, with or without the chip in place.

Thanks in advance for your help

Phil

Try reversing the batteries.

If I reverse the batteries there will be no sound at all!...the batteries only work one way.

If you reverse the batteries, you will destroy the DA converter. Somebody did this already. Sad: The Ferranti DAC is no longer available. The arcade noises is the counter. Does it change if pitch or bend is altered? Does it change if you open the ZIF? Then there might be hope, because these noises also occur when the ZIF is dirty and one or more data lines are not working. Clean the ZIF by rubbing an Eprom from side to side scratching with its legs the ZIFs contacts. Good luck.

hi MIchael, thanks for your help.

I tried what you've said with no luck. The pitch of the crazy sounds does change and the bend also...but rubbing the eprom had no affect on the sound.
