Just to be clear: I believe that the issue of sharing wasn't the main
concern. Selling copyrighted stuff, uploading someoneelse's scans and
similar without giving credit was though.
I know many here would appreciate links to schematics and manuals not
already out there. But putting them in the yahoogroups database might
not be that good. There is not that much space and yahoogroups do need
to listen when Big Brother comes waving his SOPA-banner....

Just my thoughts,

If I got the schematics is because I paid for it but...who will claim copyright for the schematics? Simmons didn't have the power to keep the Name but will claim the schematics copyright?
I think is the anally retentive nature of gear collectors, there are exception obviously not everybody is an idiot keeping everything to himself or trying to charge an abussive price for a single Simmons part.
But it's ok I will pretend I believe you and I will keep all to myself to allow to the same people to keep geting profit with Simmons stuff.

Hi,

So now we're back in a discussion I don't really want to have, but I
don't want to be a fascist moderator either. I think many
misunderstandings on this list is due to the fact that we have very
different backgrounds as far as languages go... (Patiently awaiting
offline abuse...)

Anyway - I love, as a collector/service guy of my own gear, if people
share and upload schematics. I think those who sell copies for profit
are mostly crooks.

My post below was regarding people selling copies that is available for
free on Paul's and Michael's sites. Same goes for eprom sounds on Ebay
and similar.

So Fabio, it was not to harrass you.

Pax,

I meant Wolfgang, not Michael. My bad. Anyway, Paul has a site:
www.simmons.synth.net with manuals that sometimes appear for sale
online. Wolfgang runs http://simmonsmuseum.com/?area=manuals which
contains a lot too.

Re: [Simmons Drums] Re: Schematics / service manuals I'm looking for....Help

2012-02-02 by Michael Buchner

Hello list,

I was several times asking the list for the SDS6 CPU schematics sheet ( I had all other ones). Nobody was willing to share it. Some days ago, Fabio payed a lot of money to complete the SDS6 schematics. He cleaned them with photoshop and shared them with me immediately FREE.

So, several questions occur and please think about them:

First: The CPU sheet was available all the time but the owners were not willing to share. I know at least two people who had the sheet and did'nt react to my "plea". Why did they hold it back? And why can you get it if you pay?

Second: How shall I behave in the future? I always help people with advice, manuals and schematics FREE. But in this case: If anybody is asking for SDS6 schematics, shall I give these for free although Fabio payed a lot of money for the CPU sheet? Or charge a little money to give Fabio something back? Funny, isn't it?

Best

Michael

Re: [Simmons Drums] Re: Schematics / service manuals I'm looking for....Help

2012-02-02 by jesper

Hi list,

this list is mainly about the drums, not copyrights. And I too know
about the hassle of finding old schematics. I try to get schematic for
all machines I own 'cause sooner or later I need them. But I rarely sell
(unless some moron offer me a lot of cash for a schematic without asking
to get it for free first :) It has happened).

Anyway, I share if I'm met in a friendly manner and I have stuff in
digital form. I don't if it's the opposite or if I get the feeling that
the guy at the other end is just there to exploit it. I gladly trade for
other stuff I need - this is best for both parties.

To answer your Q: If Fabio asked you to keep it to yourself. Please do.
If he said he was glad to share - be glad to share. That's basically how
I see things.

What we don't need on this mostly friendly list is harrassment and
ignorance.

To sum it up - I have very few schematics for Simmons gear, and all I
have I think is already online. If not - please ask.

keep banging those hexaheads!

Re: Schematics / service manuals I'm looking for....Help

Probably we should define "share" a bit more detailed. I hope that everybody agrees that schematics are a valuable intellectual property. Especially the Simmons schematics are still "owned" by a company named "Sound Unit" which is the last "Simmons Drums" company. This company still exists! For that reason I would not share those schematics at a public place. On the other hand I am glad to know where I can get them to get my 6 fixed (or for Michael to get my 6 fixed :-P )
For that reason I can only thank Fabio for giving Michael the schematics - for free. And once my SDS6 will run again I know I owe both of them a big favour (like a couple of bugs or hugs and kisses, whatever they deserve)

But in this case: If anybody is asking for SDS6 schematics, shall I give these for free although Fabio payed a lot of money for the CPU sheet? Or charge a little money to give Fabio something back? Funny, isn't it?

I can imagine quite a few things dying if you invert the polarity. Not
likely the diods though, but IC's and similar...
