Re: [Simmons Drums] value of my sdx?

hi dave
bought both of mine last year
both were £800ish (you will need to covert to dollars euros etc)
one came with manuals disks etc (btw i can't get the x sequence to run or the latest final os release) the sdx stand full 8 mb ram and hardrives but the unit case is tired
my other sdx is in pretty good shape and fully loaded and i have 20+ sdx pads plus the sds9 pads and huggers mean i'm not short of things to hit
it's like a lot of things it is worth what a market will pay
you have a piece of music history....................but does it have a famous user in it's past that helps
still if you are looking to offload then you are probably in the right place but if you are wondering i'm out of space here and my spare money goes on harleys and mountain bikes these days

anybody here know what the value of my sdx kit might be? It is the
brain in a custom road case. 6 tom pads, a snare pad,and a kick
pad(which isn't an sdx pad but still works.) the entire original disk
library. the latest O.S.,the entire manual, and the sequencer manual.
does anybody know how much that might be worth?

thanks

Re: [Simmons Drums] value of my sdx?

2004-07-27 by Patrice JACQUOT

Hi Dave ,
It might depend what you expect & who you are ...
I've seen 1 year ago an SDX kit for sale around 600 £ ...that was a full option 10 pads kits (in perfect shape) from a famous UK drummer...
In the same time I've seen a deutsch fellow trying to sell an SDX brain with only 4M° of Ram if I remember well, around 1500£ ... He pretended knowing what it was & thought it would justify his price ...

For example in 94, I bought my New SDX (10 pads & Os package & SEQ etc...) from Dave SImmons ,& I paid around 2500£...
When I wanted to buy a second one Dave proposed me to built anotherone for 1200£, because it was a second one & because it was me .
But that was a New one , & 10 years ago ...
Did the SDX became more rare or more demanded since then ...???

I've seen in 98/99 some advertising SDX for 700 or 800 £ icluding fly cases & 10 pads etc...
That was when the S5000 / S6000 AKAI samplers just went out with some High quality Filters ...

I suppose the right price will be what people will be ready to pay for & if you accept it ...

It's anyway a rare piece of history , with some terrible filters & audio converters...a great design & video interface... but with some limitations due to the fact that the hardware couldn't evolve (the Ram & HD ...) & that the OS even the latest one has some terriffic Bugs that you need to know if you don't want to erase all of your Kits/sounds by saving some new ones...
the pads have this incredible Zoning Assignations but a very poor dynamic, a painful touch & some rare (& dying) FSRs ...
But the form stays magic , last year I finally I even bought an XRack instead of a laptop ... Good choice or not ...
I suppose an irrational choice instead of anything else ...
You need to find an irrational buyer (I mean someone like me who dreamt by hearing Bill Bruford with its SDX for example ...) to sell it at its best price otherwise it will be the lower price which can only be justify by curiosity .
Or that famous guy wwho want that famous Sound ! But everybody don't necessary know that famous sound ...

so what's the price for all that ??? I still wonder too ...
I love it & hate it so much in the same time !

Hope that helps !
Patrice.
