next battery exchange patient?

next battery exchange patient?

2012-01-03 by jesper

Hi list,

my SDS-7 is loosing the patches after a few hours without power. I guess
it's time for another battery fix. :(

Anything special to think about before digging into it?

Answering myself...

YES - time indeed:

No obvious leakage. It is as if it's dried up instead of leaked. But
16th of May 1985 is 26½ years ago. No wonder it forgot everything I told
it...

Jesper,
you once told the list, that you like for example to use printer eproms as trashy sound sources. So why fix the battery? Understand the loss of memory as a higher level of art! Every day you will have other trashy noises!
Think positive.
No? Then solder a 3.6V NiCd (any brand, any shape, any size) into the sucker and go for it. While pulling out the 1.st card on the right (behind the inc/dec/button panel), pay attention at not loosing the centering pin of the connector. The rest is childsplay.
Best
Michael

Hi Michael & list,

I'd be willing to go for the randomized patch way if it indeed would be
randomized. :D Now it seems to get stuck in a very lame "all snare mode"
  which is very undesirable.
Cards are already removed and so is the battery which fell apart upon
desoldering. I took out the other card by it too and cleaned the back.
It seems that Tony Holmes had stored it on it's rear for a period and
there the leakage had ended up. Nothing major though. Now it looks shiny
again and I'll get a new battery one of these days. Will go for the
lithium AA-type again and mount the battery holder at the bottom (with
added diode since backtracking the recharging circuit was a bit messy here).
Both plastic locaters are still safely in place and I left the stripped
SDS-7 in the rack. Now, I bid you all a good night. :)

p.s. I keep the wacky eproms for the SDS-1's. d.s.
