Voltage conversion of the MTM transformer... ?

Voltage conversion of the MTM transformer... ?

2011-10-03 by xylofoam

Hi all,

I'm trying to convert the original transformer in my MTM unit from 110V to 240V... According to the service manual the transformer supports all voltages on the primary core (all colours match the schematics (black:0V, brown:100V, white:110V, pink:220V and orange:240V)), but when I reconfigure the tranfsformer to EU (240V) I get absolutely NOTHING on either of the secondaries?!
What am I doing wrong? According to the schematics there is only ONE primay core, but are there really TWO that needs to be in serial, or ?

cheers

Sell it to me instead. I have 110-feeds to spare. :D

Looking at the schematics, you only need to have black and orange ( or pink
for 220V ) connected to the fuse/mains switch.

This should work. If it doesn´t the transformer could be toast. You can get
a new one at Elfa.

Yes, that's exactly what I thought as well...
Do you know what the outputs are from the secondaries, or perheps even what an Elfa replacement transformer would be ?

Unfortunately no, I bought one a long time ago but they don´t seem to have
it any longer.

I managed to get it going... It seemed to have been the coating on the wires had too good insulating properties... :-)

Btw. What's the fuse when set to 240V? Is it 1A/250V?
(When set to 110V it had a 2A/250V fuse)

Re: [Simmons Drums] Voltage conversion of the MTM transformer... ?

2011-10-07 by Martin Ator

It might be OK with a 500mA fuse in there.
The coating on the wires is usually enamel, and needs at least 400-415°C to burn it off. It smells bad when it burns, which is how you can tell that the solder is getting through.
