serial numbers (now with compiled list)

serial numbers (now with compiled list)

2011-09-02 by jesper

Hi,

here's the results of the Simmons owners inventory... with comments from
yours truly. I decided not to go for a database but to include the
highest and lowest serials known. Brackets indicate model number
included in serial.

SDS-I (prototype) 1
SDS-1 (1)0405-2290
SDS-II (prototype) 1
SDS-III 0098-0160
SDS-IV (4)193
SDS-V (MusicAid) 0002-0078
SDS-V 581-6624
SDS-6 109
SDS-7 (7)0001-2536
SDS-8 (8)0362-4133
SDS-9 208-3928 (7090?) (misread 1 for a 7?)
SDS-200 2809
SDS-400 1143
SDS-800 1420-2347
SDS-1000 (M)4025-7898
SDS-2000 397-734
SDX 19-170
MTX-9 0523-2159
Trixer 1464
TMI 1029
MTM 114-846
ADT 370
EPB 665-880
SPM 8:2 771-2640
SDE 3085
Portakit 197
Silicon Multimallet 366
ClapTrap (mk1) 007-384
ClapTrap (mk2) 713
ClapTrap (mk3)

So, a few of my guesses was way off it seems. But some quite good.
SDS-III and SDS-IV were not as rare as expected but I guess we can
assume many are lost today.

Cool to see the second SDS-V and the first SDS-7 ever on the list!

Very few SDS-6 out there. WT, we need your digits too...

EPB's have a suspiciously narrow span. Anything lower available?

ClapTrap mk2 has a typewriter typed label below. Same as early wooden
pads and it's hard to read but I'm quite positive it's 713.

Keep'em coming and I'll update the list...

Ok, here are my numbers:
Musicaid Claptrap Mk1 : 265SDS-V : 1805SDS-IV : (4)174
btw I could possibly see myself selling the SDS-IV (with wooden pads) if someone is interested. Im located in Sweden.

Hi Jesper,

First of all thank you very much for allowing me to participate in this forum. As I am new to Simmons drums, I wanted to know how you knew that the SDSV with serial no 581 is the second one? Are there any differences down the road?

Best regards,

Peter

Hi,

The list? We were only listing the span of known numbers. So that's just
a list of confirmed numbers (assuming none were skipped in the series).

Hi Jesper,

OK, thank you! Actually, my question was not correct as I intended to know how many units where built under the Musicaid label before they switched to Simmons… What’s funny is that I just bought an SDS V with serial n° 000583… close but no cigar.

Just another question: can pads of an SDS 1000 be used for an SDS V?

Thanks so much,

Peter

Hi,

I think they made 100 under the MusicAid logo... Wolfgang probably knows
best (and owns a couple of these).

And I think (again) that you need to modify either pads or SDS-V.Pads I
think... Have you searched the archives for info? Otherwise I know
Wolfgang to be your man here as well. :)

To use sds1000 pads with the SDSV I believe you need to add a 1k ohm resistor across the terminals either in the pads or in the cables.

2016-12-19 by Peter Wendling

Hi Jesper,

Thanks for your mail and sorry for all those (obvious) questions as I am new to all this. So, regarding the pads, what I should do in order to make SDS8/9 pads work with a SDS5 is adding a 1k ohm resistor in Parallel to the piezo, right? At least, this is what I found in a thread on the forum. I already tried some mesh pads but of course, they sounded whacky :-/

Thanks so much for your help,

Peter
