About the size of the pads...

2011-06-13 by VictorHugo

Hello every one. I've just been accepted to join this group [yeah! thanks].

Since the SDSV pads are extremely difficult to find in my country [Mexico], I'm starting the construction of a custom simmons-clone kit as a [temporary] DIY project, while I get lucky enough to get a real one.

Curiosly, various module versions are commonly available here, like the SDS1000, but not the pads :P

As I´ve never had the chance to measure the real pads, would anyone do it as a favor to me? I only need the dimensions of one side for the toms and the bass pads, elementary geometry and a CAD soft will do the rest.

I'll document the project as often I can. In the past I've been able to build my own mesh pads with all the functionality of a Roland pad, then hopefully this will work too.

Thanks in advance.

the edge length of the small pads (all generations) is about 185mm

some basics about geometry of hexagons are here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hexagon

Interesting throwback to the past =)
From what I read in the Simmons book, the first hexagons were made from wood. Then colored acrylic, then clear (painted internally) then
back to colored molded plastic. I think the "head" shells were fibreglass. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
