SIMMONS SDSV Rack Ears?

SIMMONS SDSV Rack Ears?

2011-04-16 by chris

I have an original Simmons SDSV brain with the standard metal case. When I took it apart to do some repairs I noticed that there were some pre-drilled holes on the sides of the interior casing. Upon further research I found that a few people had mounted their units in racks using rack ears. My outer casing is pretty banged up and I'd really like to rack mount the SDSV. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get a rack kit for the SDSV? Was there one made by Simmons? Does anyone have a kit that they'd sell me? Please let me know

I use a rack tub: http://www.thomann.de/gb/thon_rackwanne_3he.htm
I don't trust in rack ears (which I cannot justify...)

Yes, those holes are intended for rack ears.
Yes, Simmons had sets for sale.
Yes, they seldom show up.
No, I have none to sell...

But... I've checked with other rack ears and I remember I have a set
that just needed one new hole per ear to fit. I think it came with my
Doepfer Drehbank.

Or, check with your local metal shop. I bet they can construct a pair
for you.

*haha* Talk about trust then. My SDS-V resides on top of my SDS-7 which
resides on top of my Knüttel EPU (which has ears built in). I'm I
pushing my luck too far? :D

If I had original rack ears I would trust them, too. But I don't and the tub is also a reliable and reasonable solution

A trip to the hardware store for some aluminum angle iron is the simplest. All you need is a drill and some screws after that. Since the V is shallow and relatively light weight ( as compared to stuff like amps ), you won't need to support the back end either. If that's not possible for you, let me know and I'll make up a set for you ( I have plenty of stock ).

GOOD LUCK !!

Roland,
Nice to talk to you! That would be amazing if you could make a pair up for me!
Let me know how much you'd want and I could paypal it to you. Would it be
possible for you to fabricate it in a metal similar to the stainless aluminum
look of the SDSV panels? Let me know and thank you so much for responding!

Hi,
Sorry to jump on a thread but i am having the same issues, i have a Sds-V and
use it fairly regularly at gigs. So i've decided it needs a rack mounted flight
case so i can stop worrying everytime i see our TM pick it up.
Do you think you could make me a pair of ears? i would be more that happy to
pay, i just seem a bit lost as to which ones to get online. I have a carry case
ready with a rack but just haven't managed to finish the job.

Matt

[Simmons Drums] Re: SIMMONS SDSV Rack Ears?

2011-04-18 by Roland

For some reason, my main email is being rejected in this group. If you all need these, efficiently I will make as many as needed and make a few extras. I'm not a profiteer, collector, or hoarder. All I ask is for the cost of shipping and that you might throw this dog a bone. In the meantime, contact me through the FB Simmons channel: http://www.facebook.com/#!/simmons.drums.fans
