Simmons SDS8 brain, need to connect

Simmons SDS8 brain, need to connect

2011-03-23 by Oleg Mysin

Hello,

I have Simmons SDS8 brain and I need to connect it to computer on MIDI
Does anyone have any clue what type of device can be used to control the 5-pin input on the Simmons SDS8 drum module? Maybe it's DIN sync or CV/Gate port?
Thanks

each pin is a triggr input and there should be a schematic on how the pins are connected to each channel of SDS8..... check this group in images or files section.... i saw the scheme some weeks ago, don't remember where exactly.

good luck.....

/k

Go to this link and buy one of these http://www.elby-designs.com/midi2sds/midi2sds-about.htm
If you go to the shop page, you can buy an external or "retrofit" version and mount it permanently inside the SDS8
I use the retrofit units mounted inside an SDS800 and a Maxim MDS1000 (Jap SDSV clone) and it works a treat.=)

The easiest way to trigger an SDS800 via MIDI: Buy (or have) an AKAI S1000 or something like it for 25 bucks. Make a program with 5 keygroups/single outs and apply a short, high pitched sample like a side stick or stick click.
Then connect the single (individual) outs with ordinary jack cables to the pad inputs. With the volume parameter on each keygroup you can make sure there is no overload. You have also a comfortable way to edit velocity reaction and more.

*word*
I used to trigger my SDS3 with and SDS2000 when my MTM was offline. Worked ok also with short,high-pitched percussive sounds from the SDS2000. An Akai is even more flexible (and cheaper)
