OFF TOPIC: Technically Minded German Speaker Needed!

2011-03-14 by Chris

Hi all,
This is not strictly Simmons related (although I might be able to make a tenuous link!) but when this particular problem arose my first instinct was to post on the list.

I have recently bought a Dynacord Super 75 Tape Echo from Germany on Ebay. As far as I can tell it's fully working. The unit takes 5 pin DIN plugs rather than standard TRS jacks.

I made some TRS to DIN cables over the weekend, but I have wired the wrong wires to the wrong pins on the DIN plugs! Can anyone advise the correct wiring method for this unit?

I've found schematics and manual here but unfortunately my German isn't brilliant:

http://www.peel.dk/Dynacord/Dynacord_Echocord_Super_75_diagram_1971.pdf
http://www.peel.dk/Dynacord/Dynacord_Echocord_Super_75_User_Manual.pdf

I've trawled the intenet for info asked the same question on the Dynacord list a few weeks ago but no-one answered. Sorry this isn't strictly Simmons related but if I get it working I'll record some samples of my SDSV going through it.

If anyone can help, please email me: gushi1@yahoo.com

Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope!

Hello,
I don't know the machine, but I worked with DIN plugs 30 years before.
The five pole DIN can take mono out, stereo out, mono in and stereo in in ONE plug. The middle pin (2) is ground in any case. Pin 3 is mono out in mono application, pin 1 is mono in.
In stereo mode pins 3 and 5 are the outputs, 1 and 4 the inputs.

If you have a 5-pole socket labelled "in" and you know, that this is a mono machine, connect ground to pin 2 and "life" to pin 1.
If you have a 5-pole socket labelled "out" and you know, that this is a mono machine, connect ground to pin 2 and "life" to pin 3

If you have an "in-out" socket, you have to construct a Y - lead, like an insert cable.

Hope this helps

Hi,

can't you just open it and check where the wires go to? I did that with
the Seak ADM-5 I once owned. DIN-5 are quite tricky and not too obvious
always. :)

Good luck!

Betr: [Simmons Drums] OFF TOPIC: Technically Minded German Speaker Needed!

2011-03-14 by Berk Aarts

Hi
Bit strange, in the schematics and the manual they speak bout 3 pole din/xlr,
balanced
1 is + or hot
2 is ground
3 is - or cold
what that would be in 5 pole din??
I have no idea, sorry
the output is or 100mV (1+2)or 1 Volt (2+3)output

If you have other questions, my German is enough to RT(F)M, so if I can help
you , let me know

Berk

DIN-5 is wired like this:

      2
    4 5
   1 3

...female socket as seen from the outside (plug side).

I'd just like to say

YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME

Thanks so much for all of your advice.

I'll have another go at making some cables at the weekend when I have some time. I'll let you know how I get on.

I owe you all a beer!

Cool - good luck!

I love the sound of a beat sequence through a tape echo.

If you've got a hard time with the wiring, maybe email a picture ?

With that logic the swedes are linguistically gifted techs. ;)

I always thought Sweden were the place for smörgåsbord, blond girls and
politically neutrality (at least in theory)...

Or, to turn it more on-topic again: The place for 2box and the original
ddrum. :)
