SDS-3 and the outputs

SDS-3 and the outputs

2010-12-05 by jesper

Hi list,

a friend has asked me to come up with a few patterns for one of his
tracks. I dug out the SDS-3 since the controller part (read: Chroma) of
my studio is lying in pieces on the living room floor and most power
cords are unplugged.
I hooked the SDS-3 to it's pads and soon discovered that channel 1-3
sends it's sound to separate output 1-3 while channel 4 sends its to mix
output where channel 1-3 do not appear. Annoying when on headphones with
the kids sleeping a floor below.
Is this a famous english "design" flaw or just loose wires in my unit? I
cannot remember having experienced this before. On the other hand I
might not have used all four channels at one time and therefor have
missed it.

If ch4 is working on mix out, the final summing transistor is ok. I bet, the ch4 individual out jack has a problem. And if the chs 1-3 appear on their individual outs, you are lucky because it's only a matter of cut wires. May be the former owner tried to eliminate crosstalk or "sing through" by cutting or desoldering the wires, who knows.

Thanks Michael. I spoke to Tom (former owner, also on the list) offlist
and he remembered a bit about it. I'll dig into it one of these days.
Doesn't sound too messy.
