Nostalgia

2010-05-19 by airflamesred

With the advent of samplers etc am I right in thinking that it is just nostalgia that is fuelling these ebay prices?
Take the sds7 - 3u high, 4 ton in weight and I have 6 retro drum samples. The point I'm getting at is the whole simmons library will probably fit into something the size of a mobile phone these days.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not being critical (perhaps a little cynical!), but the only bit I would now use is the pads and MTM.

No, I don't think so...

The SDS-7 is so much more. There is an all analogue part too with CEM
and the lot. No VA has been able to match any analogue oldie this far imho.

Nostalgia does play a role in driving up vintage gear prices. Take the recent SDS1 auctions, for example. No sane or logical person would pay that.
However, the assertion that the SDS7 is no longer relevant and is simply an object of nostalgia is totally wrong. If you spent any time with one you'd know that 'digital' is only part of the equation and that as a drum synthesizer it is still an invaluable tool today.

Probably some guys here even fuel people's greed for Simmons gear through their websites/weblogs :-)
