OK dudes... MTM info

OK dudes... MTM info

2004-04-07 by jesper

Hi!

I've found a MTM at the right price, but before buying it... this is what I
want it to do - will it?!

I have incoming midi data that I want to transfer to trigs for my SDS-V and
SDS-2. Does the MTM convert different velocities to voltages and thereby
making the SDS-V velocity sensitive?

Any info appreciated and if quick - the better!

I though MTM was their MIDI mixer and the only thing MIDI about it was
the ability to change programs of mixer settings. I bought one when
they first came out and it died on me after a couple months. I took it
to be repaired and haven't seen it since. After months and months of
asking about it, I forgot about it and when I finally, after a few
years asked about it again and was told it's "probably" long gone.
Needless to say I no longer deal at ALL with Medley Music in Bryn Mawr,
PA, USA. I took a keyboard there once for a battery change and had it
returned with a knob missing that was there when I brought it in.

hi jesper et al......
i have a mtm manual around here somewhere i'll dig it out
it was one of those products way ahead of it's time and very complicated and clunky for what it was supoosed to do
(goes up stairs for manual)
according to the diagrams for setting up you should be able to trigger a sds 5
remember back the the sds v was not that old and not thought of as legecy product
what i can't work out from looking at the manual is if you'd get velocity sensitive output although i suspect you would as it goes in to great detail about threshold out puts and dynamics
what the hell if you have the ££$$ just buy it anyway then you know it's in safe hands..................
cheers

I have the manual too, and that was my interpretation too...

Yes, but it's a bunch of talk and no specific examples. The MTM is obviously
designed for drummers.

Well, yes, but I just bought an SDS-7 from Graham here on the list (though
through Ebay, I need the total Graham!) and when that arrives along with two
analogue effects I've bought from a friend my rack is FULL!

So, I don't feel like constructing a new rack to fit one unit I'm not 100%
sure is doing what I want it to do!

The MTM does exactly what you are hoping it does. I use two MTM's
(one for my SDSV and the other for an SDS7) and they work
wonderfully.

Via Midi the SDSV will react just as if you were triggering it from a
pad, velocity changes and all - so does the SDS7. I trigger the
brains in a variety of ways via the MTM. I use a MidiKat to
incorporate the Simmons stuff along with other samplers and sound
modules, but also trigger them from my keyboard and my sequencer
(Sonar).

Hope this helps!
