The SDS-2 you mean? It's (afaik) the only existing unit of the SDS-2, one of
the first units made my Dave Simmons and most likely the very same that New
Order used during the 80's...

And YES, I'm very proud and ashamed of telling how little I payed for it!

Most pages that mentions it (which is basically just New Order
interviews/sites and the german site synrise.de) says it's a prototype that
never came into production. I've looked on the inside of mine and it sure
doesn't look like a factory run model... there is also a separate headphone
amplifier in mine which might indicate that this was customised for a live
drum set.
I have no proof that mine is the only existing SDS-2 but I sure have never
seen or heard of anyone else having one... Except the only Stephen Morris
once had (and hated). So I think it's a fair guess to assume that the SDS-2
in my rack is the one Stephen once had and also the only existing unit...
But as mentioned, no proof, just guesswork. But do prove me wrong!

Here are a few link regarding the SDS-2;

http://machines.hyperreal.org/manufacturers/Simmons/info/simmons.drums

http://home.dialix.com/~u3336/factory/faq96.html

http://www.helmet.de/simmons/nav_simmons.htm (my unit pictured)

There are also a few hits on "svenska analogsympatisörer" but that's my unit
we're discussing... I've also seen a few mentions at the dutch synth forum,
but that was Senso and Tony Black talking about my unit too...

Well, Ebay is seldom the place for cool gear cheap, but last year I won the
auction for this sucker at (if I remember it correctly) 68 euro (maybe even
58?)! It arrived broken but it just turned out that the PSU had bounced
around inside, wrecking some soldering points etc so it was quite easily
fixed and now it's fully operational...

electronically yours, jesper
