Analog Clap Trap

Analog Clap Trap

2009-02-02 by superwolle70

Hi,
I don't know if anybody even noticed, but the analog Clap Trap
appeared in two different faces (different knobs, different font type,
different arrangement of control components). I guess one is an older
Musicaid version, the other already shows the new Simmons logo. Does
anybody have both an can tell something about this (Thomas?)? Do they
technically differ or is the younger version only facelifted?
Thanks

Hi guys,

I've uploaded a pic of all three different versions that I have
already some time ago and here's the specs:

- Analogue Clap Trap MK 1 Musicaid angled version without Humanizer,
push buttons with LED like on OBX, OBXa aso.
Ensemble Clap: Poti for Ragged-Tight and High-Low, Noise called
Hiss and has Poti for Long-Short and High-Low (I actually
opened mine and trimmed the inside Resonance Poti up, so I have
oscillating Resonance as well.

- Analogue Clap Trap MK 2 Simmons non angled flat version, adds knob
for Humanizer (kind of random claps to make it more "human"),
TR-909 like push buttons, but very liable to break off !
Ensemble: Poti for Ragged-Tight and High-Low, Noise called Crash
and has Poti for Long-Short and High-Low (I also
opened mine and trimmed the inside Resonance Poti up, so I have
oscillating Resonance as well.

Soundwise they differ like an EMS AKS to a VCS 3.

Hope that helped and check out my photos...

Best

Thomas

Are there even more versions? Mk2 has "humanizer" which mk1 is missing.
But are you talking about mk1 or mk2 or do you mean the differencies
between the two.

Hmm, even though I was soooo precise...
There's also the MK 3, which is the Digital Clap Trap, I was just
showing the difference between the Musicaid and Simmons ANALOGUE CLAP
TRAP ;-)

I simply ignored mk3. Digital isn't my game! :D

Then Thomas description is good. But... to make things worse I've seen
the mk1 with the white knob caps with index. At least that's what I
recall...

I want a mk2 for the humanizer function, but maybe Thomas can tell us
how useful it is. :D

The Humanizer is basically randomly changing the Ragged function, that
means kind of pitchy and more or less people clap...if you can call
it that ;-)
By the way, I'm trading one of my analogue Clap Traps MK1 (yes
Jesper, the one in the
auction) for anything interesting (like a SDS-3 or 4 ;-). It's in
absolute pristine condition and
working like new !

But is it any good? I know what it does, but when heard - is there any
major advantages or just more fun toying with? :)
