Vintage Simmons Drums (UK) Users Group

Hi all.

Can someone tell me if there were two or possibly more versions of the
SDS7 pad?  The reason I ask is because I have two very different sets of
pads with XLR connectors (not an SDSV though).  One has softer (slightly
rounded) edges on the back shell and uses T-bolts to secure it to the
stand, the other looks more like an SDS9 pad with sharper edges and
requires a drum key to secure. Again, both have XLR connectors.  I'm
guessing that the softer edge version was the first.  [:-/]

You are right. The SDS7 lived to see two generations of pads. The
first (Mark III) came when the SDS7 was introduced in 1984.

Later, in 1985, this type was taken over by the more advanced Mark IV
pads which have also been part of the SDS9/1000/200/400/800 bundles
but with XLR instead of 6.3mm connectors
