GC's going at it again with the SD9K

Here they go again!
http://www.simmonsdrums.net/

Saw it today in a GC store.
Looks better than their previous cheap Chinese kits but still not a
REAL Simmons kit.
Check out the hex shape on the back of the pads, though ;)
http://www.simmonsdrums.net/sd9k/pop_pad.cfm

Gotta say the sound module looks pretty cool, with big display, USB and
memory card slot.
http://www.simmonsdrums.net/sd9k/pop_module.cfm
Didn't have time to check all the preset kits; seems they got some
decent 'vintage Simmons' sounds in there too.

At a thousand bucks for the whole set, I wonder how much they'll put a
dent in Roland's market.

Hilarious.

So, just out of curiosity, how much does Guitard Center/²Simmons² pay for a
phony post?

Pat yourself on the back, dude. You¹re a genius.

They're putting that logo all over the place. Sad... The hex formation
at the bottom of the pads was "fun" but I just thought the brain looked
as cheap as most other new kits. I prefer more sober design or a simple
rack unit.

Thanks for the info and thanks for stating that it's not a Simmons set.
We cannot make that clear enough to all googlers out there...

Nothing! I bought a SD5K from GC a couple years ago, it was indeed a
cheap chinese kit, not too bad for the price (the first Roland kit
was much more expensive, and the Alesis kit was really bad). I've had
problems with the kick pad, GC replaced it under warranty.
I know it's got nothing to do with the original UK Simmons.
When I saw the new kit at GC, I just though you guys would be amused
by the new pads... nothing more.

My apologies.

The post suspiciously resembled to me the kind of fraudulent post by a
retailer posing as a musician/consumer that you see on Gearslutz and other
music forums. I was also a bit tipsy, no harm done I hope.

Still, it¹ll take more than hexagonal pads and "vintage sounds" to get my
interest. I'll stick with my SDSV, Syncussion and Electro-Snare thank you.

Good guys, let's keep a friendly tone. Always nice when I don't need to
step in... :)

Had to google "electro-snare". Multivox, right? Is it a design of their
own or a re-labelled Synare? Do you know?

Not to stray too far off-topic, but it's my favorite analog drum synth and
secret weapon. It uses the triggering design of the Synare 3 - piezo
speaker mounted on the underside that draws power from the battery when
struck - and suffers from the same issues, namely false triggers/crosstalk
on loud stages and that annoying waking pop if it hasn't been struck for a
while.

HOWEVER, the synth section is way more advanced than the Synare (which is a
huge disappointment if you want something other than the disco "pooo" sound)
- 2 oscillators, 2 invertible envelopes, switchable hi/lo/band pass filter,
noise, ring mod, LFO, etc. etc. probably too complicated for the average
drummer. The exact same unit was sold as the "JHS Pro-Rhythm Drum Synth"
and is most likely the original design (Multivox only copied other's
designs). I believe Coron made a version as well. It was a flop and very
few were made, I think the one I have is a trade show demo. It's my dream
to build a multi-channel version with trigger inputs.

...Actually, forget everything I just said, It's a piece of junk and you
don't want one. If anyone comes across one just send it to me for disposal
