Vintage Simmons Drums (UK) Users Group

As a member for nearly 5 years I avidly read all the posts forwarded
to my e-mail account from the simmons group; yes even the "GC trivia"
and "hotbitch 19" stuff which I promptly delete. That's the easy bit.

The Racist bit
In my experience it is typical of US organisations such as Yahoo, in
an attempt to encompass the rights of all in such a manner as to make
it difficult for members who joined the group with the original spirit
and aims of the founder(s) to have any real say in how things are done
for those members.

Yes the information you want is freely available but first let us
subject you to this torrent of advertising and cultural conditioning,
after which you will be left reeling and have forgotten why you wanted
information anyway.

This is a kind of homogeneity of information, where no piece of info
is apparently more important than any other; i.e. "hotbitch 19" is as
important as "how to repair a Simmons Multi-Mallet" (I got beat in the
auction, glad you got it working p_k).

If Jesper is prepared to take on the task he has my vote, as moderator
he has proven himself to be fair-minded and diligent. I do not often
actively contribute to the group, but enjoy the content as I am sure
the majority of members do.

Unfortunately many organisations work in the same manner as Yahoo and
in order to get what we want from it we must adapt and put up with a
"near enough is good enough" attitude. Most members started with
curiosity about the hexagonal beasties, let us continue in another
group under their rules which will give us what WE want.

One thing is certain - that Yahoo will have a policy on an apparently
dormant group, but it would take a long time for any of us to track it
down and understand it. If we move, we regain autonomy and control and
I am sure that many established members will have downloaded the posts
over a period of time. Most of the info contained in the archive is
chatter, crowing and even bickering. If queries arise from future
members I am confident that most could be answered from the continuing
membership.

Lets go.
