SD5K drum set

SD5K drum set

2008-07-07 by mariaandrasik

My name is Maria and I am responsible for the liturgical music at
Catholic Church. Recently, the church received a SD5K drum set as a
free gift from a young drummer, who was completely discouraged as
this drum stopped working right in the middle of the church service.
He donated this drum to church. Now,hello! I am not a drummer. I am
pianist/organist. I brought the drum to Guitar Center--they said
that the "brain" is working. I do not have a main power supply
jack. They said to contact the Simmons on internet to get a new
one. So I wet on Simmonsdrum and came accross the warning message
from the original Simmons (in England) that SD5K dig. drum set could
be made in China (cheaply) not in England....and I should take it
back to get money back if it is not working. I am shocked. What
should I do. The drum set is already 2 years old (out of waranty).
I need to get also a kick trigger, as it is missing from the set and
an output Jacks to amplifier. I do not have anybody to work with on
this issue. Please advise me.
Also, is there any difference that I can find on this drum that shows
that it was made in China; or any marks or signs to signify that was
made in England.
Lost drummer,
Maria

Hi Maria,
The original British Simmons company closed in 1993. This cheap crap
you are talking about only shows the Simmons logo because Guitar
Center grapped the rights of this name. The same kit as the SD5k
appears under a bunch of different labels but is nothing but non
reliable mass production crap comming from China. Si the easiest way
to distinguish Chines from British Simmons prducts is: If it is
younger than 15 yars, it has definetely nothing to do with "Simmons"
Bye

Since you are so polite and honest I'll give you a short answer. I'm
also glad you found the warning online. It proves that our work helped.

All SD5K are China made. The originals are called SDS-V or SDS-5. The
most shocking in your story is that it is Guitar Center that is
marketing the SDS5K so they ought to be able to sell you a decent PSU
and maybe even a kick unit.

We don't want an ongoing discussion here, but maybe a friendly member
can take this offlist with you. The SD5K are cheap machines but GC
should take their responsibility.

Good luck Maria,
