Yes, i have.

Currently i own a complete SDS-1000 w/pads, 3 small simmons pads, a
couple of imitation simmons pads and Roland PD 31/21/11 pads.
It works well.
I am selling them, but now i am trying to buy the same stuff. But now
with the second Pearl drumrack.

Hi! Three questions:

1)Would the Simmons kit (pads) work with the Roland V-Drum modules today?

2)Can any of the pads be used to trigger/tune sounds in a BOSS Dr.Rythym DR660
drummachine, by plugging the pad from Output(1/4inch male)jack
to female MIDI input jack on the drummachine?

3)Would the pads work with sound generators?

If the answers to these 3 questions are "Yes" - then I've underestimated the versatility
of the Simmons kits all these years since their birth!

(I bought my pad kit used, without the brain, paid $100 for all 5 pads- they're black, not sure which SDS model they are; soon as I bring them home from layaway next friday I
will take pics and show them here)

AFAIK - yes... there mighjt be differencies in voltage etc, but I guess the
Rolands have gain potentiometers too? (or some digital equivalent?!)

NOOOOO!!!! Don't try it! Midi is a digital interface only dealing with
zeroes and ones and not hard vicious voltage. However, if you find a Simmons
TMI, MTM or similar you can convert the voltage from the pad into midi info.

How do you mean? If you can trig synths from them? Offcourse, with the right
equipment at hand... :)

You sure have, but you've misunderstood what midi is on the other hand.

I am soooooo glad I had asked these 3 questions, and I am sooooooo happy for your help and info you have shared with me.

It is true, I do not understand MIDI--- therefore, I will not try to do anything crazy to connect the Simmons pads the way I described in question # 2. I'll just leave the pads alone, and enjoy them for what they can do.

Now I have lots of homework to do by studying MIDI, reading books at the library, and learning all there is to know about it.
Most of my current recording gear (especially my Fostex VF16) has MIDI options and capabilities, but I never learned to use MIDI for anything about my gear.
As for triggering sound generators, yes- I meant synthesizers, like Moogs and ARPs;
but again, I must learn about MIDI before I try any crazy experiments.

For now, I'll just Play the Pads and enjoy them.

Or skip midi and just use the Simmons stuff along with the analogue synths.
Not much can go wrong there! Either it works or it doesn't, but it's very
very hard to destroy anything!
